The distinguished stage, film, and TV actress died on October 8. This is a long and very detailed obituary, and yes, Louis IS mentioned, down towards the end...

Sad News. A very important character in AMC history. [hall2_cry] I readed about this on soapcentral.com.

OMG! [hall2_shocked] I love Myrtle Fargate on All My Children! [bigok] I was just thinking that it's been a while since she was on the show. This is very sad news, indeed. [bawl] There's going to be a big tornado storyline on AMC this month. I've heard that some major characters are going to "die". Now that Eileen Herlie, the actress, has died, I wouldn't be surprised if Myrtle Fargate, the character, dies, too, as one of the tornado victims. [hall_sad] I hope they give her a huge memorial episode; she deserves it. She was a very celebrated stage actress before she was on AMC. [clap2] I will miss her. May she rest in peace. By the way, most news sources say that she was 90 years old. She sure didn't look her age! [hall2_wink]

I knew Louis Edmonds quite well outside of fandom.
This obit suggests that Herlie & Louis were "companions", i.e. a couple.
Not true, they were best buds.
When Louis was dying, dear sweet Eileen was the only AMC cast member who called him & came to see him.
Bless her heart, she was a dear woman who Louis loved.

I would venture to guess than more than a few female acquaintances found Louis attractive, yet managed to remain friends with him once they discovered those particular feelings weren't going to be returned. He WAS a good-looking fellow whose appeal crossed gender and orientation lines, back in the day.
Craig Hamrick's "Big Lou" mentions that, initially, the much-married Ruth Warrick was interested in him when he came onboard AMC to play "Phoebe's" lover/husband, but they, too, developed a rewarding friendship. And judging by the recent, ahem, "revealing" YouTube entry (that was later taken down) he was pleased to give her--- and everyone else present--- a SPECIAL reward. [hall2_wink]

Didn't AMC do a tornado storyline back in 90's??...They need to do a more respectful way of dealing with her death on the show.
