Today's episode featured another reversal distinguishing Professor Stokes from ancestor Ben. in 1795, Ben was the illiterate, striving to master the alphabet and the written word. In today's episode, Timothy Eliot is the teacher, passing knowledge on to Adam.
For a moment when I saw Adam with the phone in one hand and a pencil in the other, I half-wondered if the professor was training him to be his secretary. I do wonder what his long-term plans for Adam were to be. Stokes doesn't seem the sort to want to parade him on the road as the Educated Monster, ("Puttin' on the Ritz") so what did he intend for Adam's future? Those of us who've seen this story line before know what ultimately happens, but I am curious as to what you think.

I think perhaps Prof. Stokes believes that an education is its own reward. That to be a learned man is accomplishment enough. And since he is an educator by profession, perhaps he's thrilled with the prospect of teaching so pristine a pupil....a living "tabula rasa" on whom to write his own theories of education.
With the added benefit, in the end, of having a companion he considers "worthy" of his own company....because he "made" him!
Imagine Adam after several years of instruction by the Professor....wearing bespoke suits from London, holding forth on rare books and fine wines, and tossing witticisms left and right! ;)

Was glad to see Adam FINALLY coming into someone who actually wants to teach him something! First we had Barnabas, Julia & Willie, who didn't teach him a thing except throw him into that damp dark cell and leave him alone all day with nothing to eat but a lousy chicken leg and a measly bowl of soup. Adam had to learn his first words from a tape recorder. Then he meets Sam Evans, who apparently is kind enough to him for Adam to consider him a friend. Sam tried to teach him a few words, but then he started getting all kinds of crazy ideas in his head about him and Adam making a fortune together painting pictures!
Now that he finally met up with Prof.Stokes, we'll soon get to see some real teaching going on between these two. Adam is so eager to learn new things, and the Prof. seems just as happy and willing to teach him. I also think the Professor, being of curious nature, is quite interested in Adam, as to where he came from, and why and how he has such enormous strength. Perhaps, the Professor feels by teaching Adam how to speak, say words, etc, he can also learn something from Adam as well. :)

Well Robert Riordan is gonna be at the Fest, I'd like to hear why he left the show, choice or not? They didn't use him in 1897 and actually I think he's a quite good actor. . .I've become quite fond of Adam.

I agree. He does a great job with Adam. Very convincing as a child/man. I remember my kids picking up the phone and doing just what he did. They were about 2 at the time, but very realistic reacation on his part. The directing must have been good also.
