Since possible other projects are being discussed, I thought I'd mention one that I've been thinking about for some time: a Prop Project. This would involve having a separate topic for any prop that anybody cares to start a topic for, with a list to be compiled by all our helpful members of where the prop appeared. These lists would naturally lead to in-depth discussions of the prop's beauty (or lack thereof), meaning, and anything else that comes into people's heads. Theoretically one could also put together a list of the episodes in which the prop appears, but I have my doubts as to whether anybody would be willing to go that far. On the other hand, MB's extreme devotion to The Pen might compel him to do so.
Other than The Pen, an obvious example of a prop to be featured would be the Primary Afghan, but there are many other possibilities - the lamp with the green ribbed glass shade, the fireplace with Delft tiles, a certain nomadic staircase, and the prop that for some reason keeps catching my attention: the picture of a man with a mustache.
Would this Project be of interest to anybody?
PS I'm not sure Prop is the right word.

Is clothing eligible? If so, I can't wait for the further discussions of 1970PT Quentin's orange sportsjacket and Maggie's quilted skirt.
-
Yes, I would think so. Midnite pointed out a while back that Cassandra wore a robe that previously Laura wore, and Julia has a robe in 1968 that looks like a robe somebody - maybe PT Angelique, but I can't remember for sure - wore later in the series, so I would be interested to know of any other hand-around clothing.

At one point in 1795 when Angie is packing up to
leave
you can clearly see her packing one of Josettes dresses. I caught that this last time I viewed 1795.
-
Would supernaturally powerful and moody facial hair components count as props?
-
How about the box that Count Petofi's hand was in? That box was all over the place. It's almost like a game with my mom and I when we are watching it, we keep an eye out for it. "There's the box!" [ghost_cheesy]
There's also another box I've noticed that keeps popping up - in the drawing room, in the upstairs hallway, in the study, at the Old House... It's not as noticable as the other one since it doesn't ever have any kind of important role.
Gotta love Maggie's quilt skirt. That thing looked like it should have weighed her down.
-
Oh, yeah, the box! Good idea. I've used it for the first Prop Project topic:
Prop Project: The Box of the Hand of Count Petofi
As for facial hair components, I think they would count if they were not grown on the face of the actor. If, for example, you could prove that Nicholas Blair's mustache was later dyed and re-used on Edward in 1897, or if you could prove that Quentin's muttonchops had been originally used on Joshua Collins, that would be fascinating.

I hereby devote the rest of my life to proving those two things.

Did I miss it? Did someone already mention Barnabas' cane? (which we've seen variations of on different shows.)

i like this project lydia.
one wardrobe gaffe that i found quite entertaining was shortly after maggie arrived at collinwood to take over as governess.she's unpacking "her" clothing from that tiny blue suitecase that of all the actresses cary while travelling and out she takes a well-worn favorite of her predecessor...
the red and blue trapeze-line,long sleeved vicki dress.a personal favorite.
-
Little-known fact: Maggie raids people's closets. Never invite her over.
I play the Spot-the-PetofiBox™ game with my mother, as well.

I think that totally works within the context of 1795. We already saw Ang in one of the hats she admitted to ripping off from Josette.

Regarding its appearance on different shows, that's covered in a topic on this board:
I thought it might be fun to start a list of all the places where we see Barnabas's cane outside of DS.
-
Thanks for reminding me of the hat. I remember it now because I did watch 1795 recently. I may have been distracted because I don't recall her saying she stole it. Thanks for the reminder Midnite! :)

Hey Goober, how do you add a trademark symbol to a post?
-
Thought I'd mention while scanning the Ebay Dark Shadows category, a 'Victorian Era Bracelet' worn by Lara Parker of Dark Shadows is for sale. As I recall, it was less than $10. While reviewing photos of DS actors for sale on Ebay, I spotted what might be Quentin's orange-plaid jacket hanging in the prop room. The picture was of Lara Parker wearing, if I remember correctly, a pink dressing gown.

To be perfectly honest, Magnus, I wasn't entirely sure how to do it on a computer. I did that on my Wii's keyboard, which uses a point-and-click interface. After checking at an online database (http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/accents/codealt.html) just now, I found out. Turn NumLock on, hold ALT, and enter 0153 on your keyboard's number pad. That lets you put in a ™ symbol.

We need to find it and perform an exorcism.
-
I looked up Dark Shadows pictures alas I didn't see that one Miss Winthrop. I would love to own several of the candids though particularly the of Jon and Grayson in 1840 clothes, David Selby and Jerry Lacy (love David's love beads and chic 70's clothes YUM) and several others. I am getting off topic it though. I spotted the Petofi box today while watching early Collectors episodes!
-
Thank you Goober....

There are some good ideas here that I hadn't thought of. My idea (subject to the gracious approval of the moderators) is that anybody can start a Prop Project topic simply by the using the format in the topic title that I used for the box that Count Petofi's hand was in:
Prop Project: [prop in question]
Once again, my original plan was to list the places where oft-occurring props occurred, but the discussion could broaden.
So, if anybody's interested, fire away!

We need to find it and perform an exorcism.
An exorcism has been held at the virtual estate of Collinwood, an exorcism which has suspended time and space and sent one young man on an uncertain and frightening journey back to the year 1970....

i do believe:
1) that Cassandra and Sandor both wore the same "hairstyle" that infamous black wig
and
2) Joe Haskells jersey jacket was shruken to fit david sometimes and then enlarged to fit joe again.
3) the entrance way to the servant's entrance of the Old House and the entrance to the Cottage are the same one.
-
I could swear that Buzz was the original owner of at least one of Cassandra's lacquered black wigs.
The post about Edward's moustache reminds me of this episode where Edward and Quentin are having a verbal sparring match and the tape cuts and Quentin is laughing ... I always thought that Louis lost his moustache while he was making some epically pompous speech.

now i'll be expecting the moustache to pop off every time Edward gets all indignant.

I think we should have a topic for the Afghan's one for the yellow and red and then the multi- colored one.
By the way Julia's sweater ended up in Amy's closet.
-
I think we should have a topic for the Afghans, one for the yellow and red and then the multi-colored one.
Loril54, I demand that you start just such a thread, on either temporally-transcendant afghan, or both. It's not like anybody else is going to.
-
I am not sure, but i do believe that Nicholas Blair and barnabas have the same silk robe (the black and silver one)
-
I think we should have a topic for the Afghan's one for the yellow and red and then the multi- colored one.
lori54, I encourage you to start such topics, using the format "Prop Project: ...." If that format is used, then it will be easy to search for the topics in the future.
I just started a new Prop Project topic:
Prop Project: The Delft Tile Fireplace
-
i believe it was discussed that perhaps a certain green wool coat gets alot of passing around.
however i think that each character...vicki,liz,cassandra...who dons this splendid garment actually gets her own for keeps!
-
Bother, how did I make my last post into a quote from Magnus (which it wasn't) without even noticing it?
-
Lydia, is it now what you had in mind?
-
Yes, it is, if I actually have a mind. Thanks, Midnite!
-
I could swear that Buzz was the original owner of at least one of Cassandra's lacquered black wigs.
Gothick oh Gothick...curses to you m'dear you made me laugh audibly for the first time today!
Love you!

Fun idea. I think I have another one which I haven't seen anyone mention, since costumes are being included. I'm going by memory, so I may not be right.
Barnabas has a maroon either robe or smoking jacket that's seen a few times. It looks for all the world like the same one Quentin is wearing in a confrontation scene with Magda on the staircase in Collinwood.
This is the scene
after he is cursed, and has gotten just about falling down drunk and is insulting her and she him. He ends up sitting down hard on the stairs and starts saying, as if surprised by it himself, how much he loved Jenny.
Again, its been a while, but it sure looks like its the same one.
Another scene is in 1840, but I don't remember which episode. There is one scene with Desmond and Quentin where they seem to have changed jackets. The colors are reversed, and Quentins sleeves look REAL short all of a sudden.
