Title: Coulld Julia treat Angelique, if so how would she do it?
Post by: loril54 on August 12, 2008, 07:57:09 PM
I just had a crazy idea. What do you think would happen if Julia treated Angelique. Could she do it? Or would she tell Angelique she wouldn't do it?  Think of the possibilities.

Treat her for what?  When?

When the series ended, Angelique was suffering from a severe case of being dead 130 years.  Julia might be good, but I doubt she's that good.

Or when she was a vampire?  That seems to me possible.  Julia did create those injections that evidently managed to keep Barnabas' bloodlust at bay (usually).

As for being a witch--I dunno.  That seems to me a matter of choice.

There's an old saying--once a Witch, always a Witch.

Maybe Julia could treat Angelique to a double martini and some no-nonsense advice on "working through and overcoming obsessive-compulsive disorder."

I would think it would depend on what point in the series.
At times Julia and Angelique are on the same side.
So if Angelique were injured or ill I would think Julia
would try to help her.

Angelique is beyond help.

Julia could help Angelique pick out a better wig the next time she decides to show up incognito (like Cassandra).

I was thinking of her mental challenges, or her vampirism.  But there certainly could be other things. I was thinking poor self-image. Why does she have to zap a man to get him.

I always thought it would have been interesting if Julia learned some witchcraft herself and decided to take Angelique on!

The craft can be learned in WICCA, however, I am not for sure if you can "learn" to be a witch in the DS world.  Angelique obviously inherited the power from her mother, I believe it was implied??

Julia was not a psychotherapist.  I believe when Dr. Woodard introduced her, she was a specialist in blood disorders.  Angelique needed psychotherapy to help her get through her obsessive-compulsive disorders especially in dealing with men she had to have  and women she loathed like Josette, Maggie, Rachel etc...   So I don't think Julia could really help.  Angelique was beyond help.  Poor thing!

Could Julia treat Angelique? But of course, with her magic amulet.

treat to her to more slaps sure!  I like all the ideas here. . particularly Julia learning some witchy tricks herself.  But Julia did run a psychiatric facility so I bet she had some training in mental shrinking and treating Ange to stop loving bad boys could've been a focus of treatment but then they both needed that. .
Actually, we learn she got her powers from Judah Zachery in 1840 when she was Miranda. There has been much debate as to whether or not Angelique was the reincarnation of Miranda. This is kind of tricky because Angelique in 1795 did say it had been her mother who had taught her how to brew the urb tea that she used to cure Sarah. Now either Angelique had no memory of her previous life as Miranda at this point or the writers simply decided to change her history to serve the purpose of her storyline in 1840. You decide.
I don't know if anything could have cured Angelique from her wanting to practice her voodoo. I will say this for her, she did give it an honest shot to try  to give up her powers during the Leviathan storyline when she was married to Sky Rumson.
Unfortunately that was shot to hell once she found out he was a Leviathan and then she started going back to her old tricks by bewitching Maggie and Quentin when she realized Barnabas was becoming interested in Maggie.
Could anything cure Angelique from wanting to practice witchcraft her or her obsession with Barnabas? I'll be damned if I know.

Slap Therapy... a slap before each meal, hurling of sharp objects followed by a healthful drenching with vinegar at regular intervals, and a weekly baseball bat to the shins.

I must point out--vis-a-vis the tea thing--what makes you so sure she wasn't simply lying?

Personally, I think curing Angelique of being a vampire was do-able.

By the last time we saw her, though, she honestly seemed to have turned over a new leaf.  So perhaps there was no need.

I think that Dr Hoffman, as a physician, would definitely do everything within her power to treat Angelique to fullfill her hippocratic(?) oath.  Of course, Angelique would need to seek or if the injury was life threatening Dr Hoffman would treat her no questions asked.

Honestly. How many times has Angelique turned over a new leaf?

Too many to count.  If the series had continued I am sure she would have continued to torment Barney.  No one ever lives Happily Ever After on soaps unless they are leaving the show.  And then more times than not history is rewritten and something happend to there Happily Ever After!!

Angelique does not like feeling vulnerable; it seems to always shift back afterwards to a need to kill and destroy lives, so I imagine that any attempt at therapy or treatment by Julia would lead to some very horrific scenes, houses burning down, curses, nightmares, compulsive seductions of innocent young men.

No way can Julia cure Angelique of her witchcraft, not with medication. Maybe Julia can help Angelique with anti-depressents like zoloft or prozac to help her to get over and move on from Barnabas.

Yeah really, especially if it works the opposite on her and makes her worse.  I am being really honest here.  At one time when I first came out of the closet I took them and they made me more depressed than ever.  So if they did Angie that way then all of her evils would be childs play compared to what she would be like after taking the medication.

Just FYI, different antidepressants work in various ways with different people.  Anything that doesn't work for you, or has side effects that aren't worth it should be discontinued.  Some people have terrible reactions to Paxil, for example.  It helped me.  After becoming a widower, I ended up on Seroquel and that knocked me for a loop--but was worth it in the end.

Yeah I don't even know if antidepressants were around in that era?!  And yes I know depressants help some people.  However, I have virtually tried everyone there is and that all make me more depressed.  This is my last post about this cause I feel I have gotten this thread way off topic.  SORRY!

I suggest round-the-clock sedatives.  "Oh, look, she's waking up!  Hurry, go tell Doctor Hoffman it's time for another injection!"

LOL, Lydia!

Yeah I don't even know if antidepressants were around in that era?!

Antidepressants were indeed prescribed in the DS era (MAOIs and tricyclics), but the SSRIs suggested in this topic (Zoloft, Paxil, Seroquel) were not; you might recall that Prozac was the first in the late 80s, so they're all off topic for a discussion of the original series.  (Though no one need apologize.  :))

Googling "history of antidepressants" will tell more to anyone interested.

Honestly. How many times has Angelique turned over a new leaf?

That's a great question!

I don't think that she ever did. She always did something good to get what she wanted from Barnabas or someone else.

IMHO, I don't think a person can be cured of greed, which is what I believe was one of Angelique's primary motives for the trouble she caused.

She wanted to have everything Josette had so she
stole Barnabas away from her. then when she found out Barnabas didn't love her she took revenge in multiple ways.
