Hello DS fans
My wife and I are DS fans and we were debating on if DS were to come back in the form of a film or tv series, who would play Barnabas? Would you change anything about the character in any way? What would he look like, pending on the actor?
-
It would be hard to improve upon the original but I think Anthony Hopkins would be good if not considered too old. :) I wouldn't change the character of Barnabas.
-
Me and a friend have actually had a lengthy discussion on what WE would do with a DS movie. I think we decided on a 1968/1795 story. My friend had the brilliant idea of casting Rupert Everett as Barnabas. He could best capture BC's longing and isolation, knowing that he is doomed to live out eternity pining for his one true love--whoever BC decides it might be that particular day.
-
Liam Neeson. And please let Kevin Spacey play Willie Loomis. If you can't picture that, rent "Usual Suspects".

Scout,
I agree 100% that Rupert Everett would make an
excellant Barnabas! Great choice 8)
-
How about Hugh Jackman? Or would he be a better Jeremiah? I like his looks, tho.
Keven Spacey as Willie? I'll have to check out that movie? Thanx, Rainey.

Hugh Jackman would make a great Jermiah!
And I agree with Raineypark about Kevin Spacey ;)
How about Oliver Platt as Prof. Stokes?
-
Liam Neeson.
Raineypark
I agree Rainey. Liam Neeson would be a great choice. He has that same kind of "tortured" look that Barnabas also had. :)

Going with the 1968/1795 storyline...
John Cusack as Peter Bradford
Katie Holmes as Maggie/Josette
Tim Curry as the Rev. Trask
?!?

I can't see anyone else which is why i probaly hate remakes! Ben Cross is a great actor and i like him but he never seemed like The real Barnabas to me
[ideab]if there was new Ds remake rather see it the next generation with cameos by the old actors. For example Carolyn was left pregnant and had Jeb's child and Barnabas and Julia had married and had a child and see their stories but don't see it ever happening!

Kathleen Turner.............Elizabeth
Drew Barrymore............Carolyn/Millicent
-
Cameron Diaz as Beth Chavez
Winona Ryder as Sabrina Stuart
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Roxanne Drew

I keep picturing him as Roger.

I keep picturing him as Roger.
THAT would be the Kevin Spacey in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."
We need the Kevin Spacey from "Usual Suspects"!
Or perhaps the Kevin Spacey from "Shipping News"...now THERE was a pathetic character!!
But no...on second thought....gotta be "Suspects"

This darn post was keeping me awake last night! But, I did get it figured out. While I love Liam Neeson and think he would be more than fine, Russell Crowe would be PERFECT as Barney. Christian Slater would get Willie just right. Oh, and Joseph Fiennes as Quentin! I like the idea of Katie Holmes as Maggie, though I wouldn't mind new ingenues in the girls' roles in keeping with DS tradition.
Actually, I prefer the idea of a second generation and bringing some of the original cast back as the older generation. But it IS fun to recast the old crew.
-
I like some of the idea's that have been posted. Here's what my wife and I thought of for actors...
Ralph Fiennes=Barnabas.
Hugh Jackman=Quentin.
Katie Holmes=Maggie/Josette.
Jude Law=Jeff Clark.
Jennifer Aniston=Victoria Winters.
Fiona Shaw=Dr. Julia Hoffman.
Mandy Moore=Carolynn Stoddard.
Julie Andrews=Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.
Frank Langella=Roger Collins.
Tim Curry=Proffesor Elliot Stokes.
Christian Bale=Joe Haskell.
Gary Oldman/Kevin Bacon/Bill Paxton=Willie Loomis
Greg Wise=Burke Devlin.
There are many more to cover so I'll leave it with this for now.

That's all it's meant to be--fun. It's like people who play fantasy football and pick all the different real-life players.
Kelsey Grammar.........Roger Collins
Patrick Stewart...........Jeremiah Collins
Tom Lenk*.................Harry Johnson/Noah Gifford
*played Andrew on Buffy this season

Going with the 1968/1795 storyline...
Tim Curry as the Rev. Trask
?!?
....or Nicholas Cage as Trask?? ?!?
I like the British actor Ben Chaplin as a young Barnabas, esp. if the storyline was set in 1795 (anyone see him in "Washington Square?)....he has those dark, smouldering eyes that seems to pierce right through you <YUM!> ;)
-
....or Nicholas Cage as Trask?
I like the British actor Ben Chaplin.
Yeah, I can see Cage being just quirky enough to pull it off. And though Chaplin wouldn't be my BC, I can definitely see him in a DS movie.

It is my opinion they should find a New Barnabas in the same fashion the first was, I'm sure he is out there somewhere waiting to be discovered.
This should be an easy search, they have the original Barnabas as a template for the second. ;)
