Title: Frid falling video on youtube
Post by: joe integlia on July 23, 2008, 06:11:32 AM
someone has uploaded the video of Frid falling on youtube. i did not capture the entire fall cause i panned away before he fell but even if i got it all i would not have the heart to post such a thing. the comments under the video are both negative and positive. i thought it might make a good topic of discussion here too. so lets hear how u feel about this video being available on youtube!

You can kiss the video goodbye.  Videotaping of any performance Jonathan Frid gives is not allowed in the first place.   It will not stay up for very long there or anywhere else.

What a dummy for posting the video in the first place! Sheesh! [ghost_tongue]

but is it a performance? its more like an accident. the video i posted of Karlen opening the coffin and Frid hitting him with the cane is more like a performance! is that going to be pulled also?

It is classified as a performance, yes.  If the lights are out and a spotlight on one or more actors is another clue it is a performance.  Your video is fine.

FYI, this video has now been pullled from youtube, probably just as well, it was difficult as a fan of JF's to watch it, I am so glad he was okay after the fall, quite a trouper.

There still are some videos of JF's Sunday performance up there and the Q&A, so those of us not able to go to the Fest can enjoy seeing those.

I can't tell you how many camcorders were on Frid during all of his appearances.  There had to be 20 on the front row alone.  No one said anything about taping not being allowed at the fest..

Not that I'm defending the posting of the video of Frid falling (posting it was beyond tasteless!  [ghost_shocked]), but if the reason for its removal was strictly because it was unauthorized video of a performance, one would hope that the other performance videos of Frid from this year's Fest will also be or have already been removed for the same reason.

Maybe it's an unspoke rule not to video performances at the fest but this year, the program did not have any statements "not" to video segments or the stars.  Personally I think the video of JK and JF was in great taste and shouldn't be pulled.  It's not long and it's not of the entire program.  Just my opinion.

i think frid himself or some people on his behalf requested it to be removed or reported it as  unappropriate.

There's no issue with that video because Nancy has already said that posting it was fine.

I am glad it was taken down. I didn't like the fact anyone would think of
putting it up.  When people that were not on the stage started to want
to gather I ask for them to sit down.

I don't like falling when I do. I don't like people making a big deal about it
I usually tell people that I will ask for help it I need it and I will tell them if
I am not doing well.

Please don't embarrass anyone more.  IMO.

I agree it is inappropriate. Being DS fans here, whether or not JF is your personal favorite, we all have a certain level of respect for the man. To publicly display a video of an embarassing moment for him like that was really pretty tacky. Dark Shadows bloopers are one thing, but a video of an 83 year old man (who many of us consider awesome for his portrayal of a legendary character) falling down is unnecessary.

The video entitled "Old vampires are a sad sight" (no, I don't like the title either) on you tube of JK "releasing" JF is interesting to me for one reason... the back of my head is in it.  I'm the one in the middle with the shaved head.  It lasts 41 seconds - not the 3 minute version.

Not all the JF fall videos have been removed.  There are a set of three videos (Jonathan Frid talks to the audience parts 1-3) that show the entire Sunday performance, including the fall.

And they're not all on YouTube.  The vid removed from YouTube was also posted on at last one other site.

I'm glad the video of Jonathan falling was pulled from youtube.

I don't understand why someone would put it up in the first place.
It just seems like if you're a big enough fan to actually go to the festival, you (general you) must really like the actors.
And if you really like the actors, why would you put up something embarrassing like that?

And how could someone keep filming when he fell?
I was snapping a pic right when he fell and I lowered my camera quickly.
I was so horrified, the last thing on my mind was filming, even though I was close to the stage and could have.

That fall must have really hurt.  I wouldn't have blamed him if he'd left to go lay down, but he didn't.
He went on with the show.

I just love that man.

interesting that not one post in this thread remarked on how JF played it off and even was doing a little "i am fine" dance on the stage after the fall.....and yes how "fortunate" it was he was not hurt.... but to assume that anyone who posts the fall or watches the fall on youtube is being disrespectfull to JF might be in line for a lobster roll and a container of coffee from the collinsport inn coffee shop.

"Willie, tonight....must go nothing wrong"

Please don't read too much into that since this topic has to do with taping and posting the video, whereas much discussion about his performances and fans' reactions to them are in some of the Fest report threads such as the topic "FULL Burbank Fest re-cap - Frid falls on stage Sunday!" that's also on this board.

The mantra "The Show Must Go On" is not just a nice talking point for most actors/entertainers.
