As most of you know, we now have legal, same sex
weddings here in CA.
States like NY & NJ have said they'd recognize weddings performed in CA, or elsewhere that it's legal (Mass, Canada, Spain, Holland, Denmark)
I don't think I've mentioned this here before, but I'm an ordained wedding minister.
If you're a gay or lesbian couple coming to the Fest and want to get married, simply go to West Hollywood City Hall on the way to the Fest & get your marriage license.
If your license is in order, I'd be honored to perform your ceremony at the fest PRO BONO.
You can return home a married couple!
PM me if interested.
David
-
no offense david...
but considering how most of the weddings/marriages played out on d.s. i would consider it somewhat cursed to get married at a d.s. related event. [ghost_wink]
-
[ghost_smiley]
LOL!
Before I perform any Fest ceremonies, both parties must agree not to turn the other into a vampire!
David
-
Which church are you ordained by, David?
-
Universal Life Church in Modesto CA.
I got the ordination in 2004 so I could perform weddings at SF City Hall during the gay weddings frenzy
of 2004.
In fact, I did six of those ceremonies, one of which was seen on 60 Mins!
David
-
I am shocked! Simply aghast! This simply is wrong, totally wrong! This can never be right! Weddings without any mention of cake? Now I know our whole society is crumbling!
Gerard
-
I wanna marry Midnite, I gotta get busy wooing. But you won't perform hetero marriages?
-
[ghost_smiley]
Couples must provide their own wedding cake & booze.
Though no payment is required, the wedding minister
will gladly accept a piece of cake & a shot of alcohol!
Hiccup!
David
-
[ghost_smiley]

I do believe that the fair Midnite is already hitched!
But if I'm wrong about that, and she's willing, I'll make an
exception for the Fest!
David
-
Couples must provide their own wedding cake & booze.
And you think you can get away with that simply because the ceremony is free? :tsk: At the very least I'd bet the other ministers are all throwing in a champagne toast with their free ceremonies! [toast]
[b003]

It's true!!!!!
I'm doing this for the free booze!
Shame on me!!!!!
David
-
No - you can admit the truth to us - you're doing in the hopes of getting the Fest on 60 Minutes. [wink2]
-
DS on 60 mins, now that would be cool!
-
David, can you marry a gay man to The Lovely And Talented Kathryn Leigh Scott at the festival? I'm not sure if that's legal there. I think it is in Alabama and San Marino, but I'm not sure about California.
Gerard
-
The stupid map geek in mer is glad you just mentioned the country of San Marino.
Anyway, good luck with this, David! And similar argh re Midnite....
-
Yep, there's a Mr. Midnite.
There's a screen grab here from the 60 Minutes II segment:
That's our Rev. David on the far right. ...
-
[ghost_grin]
Hey Gerard:
I'll be happy to wed you to Kathryn.
It'd be legal in Utah, and she wouldn't even have to divorce her current husband!
RE: 60 Mins, when one realizes that DS has returned from the dead more times than Angelique, the show should be on 60 Mins!
David
-
great idea. i will add another offer. if the ceremony takes place while no major events or panels are going on at the festival, i would be willing to videotape any ceremonies that take place free of charge. then we would have footage to submit to "60 minutes"! lol
-
Ha. I was just teasing my partner about joining me in CA to get married. We had a little ceremony here in GA a few years ago but alas it will be a cold day in hell before it's legal here. Clever little thing caught on to me though and said she refused to get married at a Dark Shadows Festival. Well, she had her chance so if that other guy is gonna marry KLS then I call fantasy gay wedding dibs on LP. But on a somewhat related note, are there any get togethers at the Fest for GLBT fans? This will be my first Fest.

[ghost_smiley]
Hey Julie
There are plenty of LGBTs in DS fandom, and we always manage to find each other.
This great board has been an LGBT safe haven for the longest time!
In fact, I haven't been to a DS Fest in years, but the goings on at DS Boards convinced me to give it another shot!
And dont give up on one day getting legal gay weddings in Georgia.
Ten years ago I would have said: "it can never happen in CA", but it did~~the world is changing.
David
-
Yep, there's a Mr. Midnite.
I've heard of the Midnite Cowboy [ghost_wink]
-
LOL
-
I am so glad for all those who will be able to get married. I doubt it will EVER be legal here either. I wish it were. I have ALWAYS been fascinated and greatful for the GLBT community in DS FANDOM!!
-
Will you be dressing up as Rev. Trask?
I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. [ghost_tongue2]
-

Only when I perform the Exorcism.........

Oh, if only it were... Just wait til November. I'll cross my fingers, but I'm not holding out much hope.
-
So, inquiring minds are dying to know...were you able to perform any marriages at the Fest? What a cool idea!
-
[ghost_smiley]
I didn't do any ceremonies, but I did spend some nice quality time with our own Prof. Stokes & her fiance~~who asked me if I'd do their ceremony!
So when they set the date, I'll be there!
The fiance is a super cool dude who, no kidding, planted a big wet one on my lips!
Said totally straight he: "If we had more kissing in the world, they'rd be less killing!"
Ain't that the truth!
(And he's a good kisser!!)
I also hung out with Midnite for a bit.
Next time, we'll have that drink!
David
-
Congratulations, ProfStokes, on your engagement. [ghost_smiley]
-
I second the congrats, ProfStokes! And now for the most important question regarding your upcoming nuptials: are you going to have cake?
Gerard
-
Congratulations, ProfStokes! Will there be cheese?
-
Yah for Prof. Stokes!! Congrats and best wishes for happiness to you both. Very exciting news to hear :-)
-
CONGRATS PS. Good luck in your future life.
-
I wish you the best, ProfStokes. May your marriage turn out infinitely better than any DS character's.
-
Wow congrats ProfStokes! When is the big day? I can't believe you didn't tell me!
-
CONGRATULATIONS, PROFSTOKES!!! HOW WONDERFUL!!! [cheer] [beer]
-
Wow! Thank you all! [blshy] I'm very touched by your support and well-wishes.
However, I'm afraid the gun has been jumped just a bit. While bananabry and I would love to spend the rest of our lives together, right now there is no formal engagement. I'm still trying to finish school, and both of us are trying to scrape by financially. It will likely be a couple of years yet before we can seriously think about setting a date. Nevertheless, when that day comes, David (who is even sweeter in person than in his posts) has graciously promised that he will perform our ceremony.
I really must thank you, David, [wavey] for setting the wheels in motion here. Your enthusiasm and the kind wishes of everyone who has replied thus far have inspired me to work even harder to make my wedding more than just a dream.
Since Dark Shadows has played such a huge role in my adult life, and since bananabry and I were brought together in part because of DS (long story), I think a DS Fest would be a most fitting place for the occasion. When that happy day finally arrives, I hope that all of you will be able to share it with us [ghost_grin] [ghost_grin] (with cake and cheese and sherry aplenty ;)).
Thanks again!
ProfStokes
-
I read in BIG LOU about a lot of couples being brought together by DS I find that simply extraordinary. I love it!!
-
Yipes!
Hope I didn't jump the gun with my post!
But I think doing the ceremony at a future LA Fest is a wonderful idea, & that's what we had talked about over the weekend.
They are truly a lovely couple~~when you're around them, the love they share fills the whole room!
It's a beautiful thing to see!
David
-
David,
You're not jumping the gun: if it weren't for this poopy economy, I'd marry ProfStokes tomorrow (today)(now). She is simply the best person I have ever met: kind, patient, understanding, smart, clever, charming, and as everyone knows: absolutely besutiful.
She is a rarity in this world: a truly good Human. I am honored to know her at all. I'm very lucky to be her man.
And, you, David, are great; I'm so glad we all met last weekend at that wonderful Fest. I wish it could go on all the time.
[ghost_smiley]
-
[ghost_embarrassed]
Aw, shucks!
Why can't a great guy like bananabry be gay?
But truly, those two wonderful, beautiful people belong together.
We need more love like theirs in the world!
David
-
I second that David.......I hear there are lots of gay men in fandom....but are they husband material???
-
[ghost_rolleyes]
I second that David.......I hear there are lots of gay men in fandom....but are they husband material???
There was one guy I flirted with all day Sat/Sun.
Couldn't get a thing out of him.
But at least I got a kiss out of Bananabry!
And a HOT kiss it was!
David
-

Aww. We were supposed to have lunch but he had to return the rental coffin, lol.
-
[ghost_embarrassed]
Aw, shucks!
Why can't a great guy like bananabry be gay?
Ain't it the truth? All the good guys are straight!
But to Bananabry, you're one lucky guy to find a hot TLATKLS like ProfStokes!
Gerard
-
Oh Gerard, the grass isn't always greener on the other side my friend [ghost_tongue2]
-
Well, then we need to form a support group for folks like us, Teresalita! I'll bring the refreshments.
Gerard

Teresalita said:

Amen to that Sister Friend!
Always, Minja [vryevl]
-
hey great posts and sounds like you found a keeper Prof Stokes
well hell has not frozen over here in Mass because of same sex marriages
(i forget what they call them) i have been to a few and there was lots of CAKE
gerard !nothing weird happened either as one of my friends asked i did point
out i've seen more weird things at straight marriages [ghost_rolleyes]
anyway the other side isn't always greener Gerard but i finally married
a great guy at 34 i like the fact that my children accept marriages of
all kinds well my daughter would laugh at the vampire pairings [ghost_cheesy]
good luck David and there is always next year( i used to know this as a Red Sox fan [ghost_tongue2])

Hey Jennifer, I think we've finally found the one advertising campaign that will ensure that every state, and the federal government, will legalize same-sex marriage equality! Just picture it - TV and print spots showing cakes. Who can resist cake? "If we legalize, look at what you get!" And there they are, white, chocolate, marble, buttercreme, all kinds, lathered in tons of sweet frosting, mountains of them, acres of them, as far as the eye can see. And hit the economic angle: all the already-existing bakeries exploding with business and new ones opening to handle the overflow, all employing countless numbers of people. After all, you can't outsource cake-making!
Gerard
-
Gerard what a concept [ghost_cheesy](plus i have to run out now to the nearest bakery after your post [ghost_cheesy])
i just don't trust anyone who hates cake [ghost_tongue]
jennifer
-
Funny some people remember weddings from years past and I remember the cake. So and so will say " Oh wasn't Betty's dress beautiful" and I'll say " Didn't she have the buttercream frosting with the red tulips surrounding it" I sit as close to the cake table as possible. I don't care about catching some bouquet, doing the chicken dance or seeing the father-daughter dance. It is all about the cake.
-
And don't forget, Teresalita, how we would use math to figure out where to stand in line in order to get a corner or end piece! And if math didn't work, you just used elbows and shoving (and snatching) to get it. And Jennifer, lets get started on that campaign!
Gerard
-
Elbows, shoving and snatching work for me. I was never really good at math anyway. I sure hope after all this someone decides to get married at next years fest. I'll be regifting a toaster from the Collins kitchen
-
Y'all sound like my brother he loves it and can name it. I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. I don't like cake and always have brownies or other goodies for my Bday's!! I know blasphemy!! [ghost_cheesy]
-
oh brownies are good too [ghost_happy]
-
Congratulations, ProfStokes! Will there be cheese?
No cheese for the Prof, but I'll gladly eat her share.
Gerard, I love your cake-ad idea. I'm sure it would work.
-
the happy couple.....
-
[ghost_grin]
Nice pic, Joe.
Yup, that's the dude who kissed me!
Dare I mention the shameful thoughts I've been having ever since he pressed his hot lips agaist mine?
YOWSA!
David
-
Very nice photo of the lovebirds. Amanda you look radiant and Bananabry looks very handsome. Love the tie!
-

YOWSA!
Oh, David! Such a slattern you are! (I love that word used by the Rev. Gregory Trask!) Shame, shame, shame! For that, you don't get any cake at the wedding! Well, maybe one piece. Maybe two. But no corner or end pieces with extra frosting! Okay, just one corner or end piece. But only one! The other one has to be a middle piece. And you have to bring a nice gift to the reception - no statues with clocks in their stomachs!
Gerard
-
Gosh, that photo turned out really well. Thank you for sharing it, joe!
And Gerard is right, David, you are an incorrigible flirt. [nono] Don't make me come over there. ;)
ProfStokes
-
David, you are such a romantic. I used to be. Then a few crazy gals knocked it all out of me.
[ghost_sad]
Along came My Princess, and ...
Love Conquers All
[angel1]
That's a great picture, Joe, but I am much happier than I look. (must have left my smile in the other jacket).
The great shirt and tie, were, naturally, the inspired idea of ProfStokes.
-
And, ProfStokes is right, David, you are a flirt, and very naughty...
[ghost_grin]
-
Oh, David! Such a slattern you are! (I love that word used by the Rev. Gregory Trask!)
I think we also get to hear that word roll off the tongue of Jamison while he's possessed by Petofi. Such a dear, sweet child!
-
David, why I never!! [ghost_nowink] Prof is gonna getcha! [ghost_wink]
-
[ghost_grin]
[ghost_smiley]
And, ProfStokes is right, David, you are a flirt, and very naughty...
[ghost_grin]
Just because I whistled at you from my car window in the hotel parking lot doesn't make me a flirt, Mr. B!
I mean, can I get a little sympathy here?
The guy was leaning over the trunk of his car in those tight jeans of his!!
What was I to do!!!!!!!
David
-
Damn, I need a cake in this apartment STAT.
-

David, Darling, flirting is one of the highest forms of Human ommunication.
However, I never wear jeans...
[ghost_wink]
Which means, you are too good to me.
-
OMG!
He called me darling!
SWOON................
Please don't be mad at me, Prof. Stokes!
I'll be good!
I promise!
