The font and color tags only affect text.

You used the code:
[/purple]
instead of the

Code: [Select]

[color=Purple][/color]

As midnite said, "font" only affects text. To make images bigger, you have to specify a size using "img". There's an example of how to specify an image's width/height on the "posting" page in the Help section.
