Title: Qui Etes-Vous, Polly Magoo? Coming to DVD in March!!!!
Post by: ClaudeNorth on February 24, 2008, 08:00:07 PM
The Criterion Company is releasing Qui Etes-Vous, Polly Magoo as part of a William Klein collection being released in March under their Eclipse imprint.

This is exciting news for Legionnaires everywhere.  Granted, this movie is available in various bootlegs and Japanese releases, but this will be the first "official" release of this film in the U.S.  Plus, Criterion is well known to DVD collectors and cinephiles for their commitment to releasing the highest possible quality products.

Excellent news!  [thumb]  As big of a Grayson fan as I am, I'm never seen anything beyond a few clips of her performance in this. I'll definitely be keeping a lookout for the Criterion DVD. Thanks for posting about it, Claude.  [snow_smiley]

I won;t start a new thread for this, not much to say:   I was sent "Gargoyles" by a friend recently:   my first "other thing" that Grayson Hall was in.     Nice little character part.     She dies interestingly.

But... the link leads to a Klein page that says, "THIS IS A PREORDER DVD THAT IS DUE TO BE RELEASED ON OR ABOUT 3/25/2008"

I wonder if it's some sort of repackaging?  [snow_huh]  Though threre's no mention of it being anything but new on Amazon: Eclipse Series 9 - The Delirious Fictions of William Klein (http://www.amazon.com/Eclipse-Delirious-Fictions-Criterion-Collection/dp/B0011U3OB0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1203998641&sr=1-1).  [snow_undecided]

Julia99 - could it possibly be that your copy was an import? Maybe the collection is only now being released in the US and Canada?

The only version I could find was a French DVD, but even if there's already a domestic, Criterion releases are always cause for celebration. Occasionally you'll find a Criterion release that uses a transfer that for some reason isn't quite as good as a non-Criterion release, or sometimes Criterion transfers are surpassed by later non-Criterion editions, but even in those cases the Criterion release will often include unique supplemental features that make their disc worth seeking out.

It would be great if Criterion were interested in the DS theatrical films, and it's too bad WB are so reluctant to license their catalog to outside labels. Criterion's motto is "The Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films on DVD," and I think a strong case could be made for the importance of both HODS and NODS, as both classic and contemporary films. If I'm not mistaken, HODS is the first and only theatrical feature film based on a daytime television soap opera. And on top of that, it spawned a sequal that, properly restored, could be Dan Curtis's masterwork and swan song!

Could be that Criterion released this outside of Region 1 -- a common practice among DVD companies.
