Title: Let's have a vote!
Post by: kuanyin on May 25, 2002, 05:13:18 AM
Ok, who is your MOST irritating DS character? [hdscrt]

For me, I have say that Burke Devlin #2, Amanda Harris, Dr. Lang and EVEN Jeb Hawkes get ruled out even though they are mighty contenders.

My #1 most irritating character? You guessed it, ADAM! [madan]

Dr. Lang--just too overwrought--especially in his dream sequence. ::)

Without a doubt, it has to be Burke Devlin.  He would just go to everyone house and acted like he owned the place.  I was so happy when he told Vicki "I don't understand" Winters that he would be going away for a few days to South America.

The ones mentioned above don't bother me (while none are close to being favorites, I don't have any particular problems with any of them).  I think I'll go for PT Sabrina.  She didn't bother me too much in regular time, but her voice would get on my nerves with her PT character.

Only one character on DS has come close to driving me to stop drinking, and that's the Stokes girl. However, play even one note of "London Bridge," and I might involuntarily begin a diatribe about why duct tape and children make for such a perfect combination.

Well, Raineypark, I don't really mind most of the characters that have been mentioned here so far, not even Lang. I suppose it's a matter of what gets under your skin. ;) But, IMHO, once Adam completely falls under a certain other character's influence, he probably becomes the single most irratating character in the history of daytime tv! [lghy] And actually that's a shame because I do think this part of his storyline has a lot of interesting things going for it.

Some of my personal picks..
1. The second Dr. Woodard
2. Eric Lang
3. Roxanne
4. Hallie
5. Early David

The #2 Woodard was a bore, Lang was over the top, I just disliked the airheaded Roxanne and Hallie.  (I think I resented Hallie when I was a teen too because she was set up to portray the perfect ideal of a teen beauty in that day.)  :P   Personally, I don't think she could act her way out of a box.  The early David was a real BRAT.  Wanted to smack him upside the head the way he acted toward adults and pouted.  Yuck.  Ok, my 2 cents worth.  Dawn   :-*

You know, there was always something about Cyrus, annoying though he might be, that--to me--made him a sympathetic, if not exactly likeable character. I always appreciated the fact that Chris Pennock finally got to play a good guy (more or less), which made it all the more effective during his subsequent manifestations of diverse temperaments. (How's that for avoiding a spoiler for folks who haven't yet seen future episodes?)

Ha! I'd forgotten about him!  I think Karlen might have single handedly saved the show from certain doom- just by replacing Willie #1!  In his handful of episodes he managed to spit out an unthinkable number of "shudder" lines.

Amanda Harris

Hallie Stokes would be a close 11th, and Sabrina Stuart is chasing after her with a short stick.

SPOILER...

My most irritating character would definately be Amanda Harris. And the worst part was, once you thought she was gone, she came back as Olivia Corey! Also, I never liked any of the Roxannes; she was just so annoying. Another most irritating would be Vicky. I liked her at the beginning of the series, but now and in 1795, she just acted so dumb. Plus, her later storylines were boring (Ex. Jeff Clark). Just my two cents. :)

Geez, I love the show so much I forgot how many annoying characters there actually were.

I will try and go in storyline order.

1. 1st. Willie - he was just awful (creepy)
2. 2nd. Burke - Bad casting in my opinion.
3. Sabrina - She was just annoying and didn't Roger Davis play her annoying brother.
4. Aristede - Annoyed me, but I did think he added to the storylines.
5. The through the years little Hawkes and the early Jeb Hawkes played by Chris Pennock.
6. Roxanne - The 2nd. one really annoyed me.

Those are my top picks, while there are a few others that weren't my favorites they didn't annoy me as much.

Phillip Todd was such a sissy - you know Megan just ate him alive - well she 'almost' did actually.

My question - there was a 2nd Roxanne? I though Donna Wandery was the only person to play Roxanne in 1970PT, 1970 and 1840. Or did the poster mean the second version of Roxanne? Either way I'll bite that the lst Roxanne was annoying as hell.

Hi Thom

I was referring to Donna Wadry, but I couldn't remember the time period where she was most annoying.  It wasn't PT 1970, So it must have been 1840, where she was Samantha's sister I believe.

I didn't like her hair and her character in that time especially annoyed me.  I liked her in PT 1970 because she was completely accepting of Barnabas.  On her own it seemed.

Sky Rumson, aka Woodman

The pianist in 1970PT, whatever his name was (Bruno)?

Sarah Collins, sometimes, but other times she was adorable.

The first Willie Loomis (who pronounced his own name "Lomis")

The final Dr. Woodard, I was glad to see him die.

Jeb Hawkes, when he was being terribly obnoxious, especially when he was calling forth the bat to bite Barnabas.  More. . .more. . .MORE!!!!!!!!  Kill me now!

Sabrina, in any storyline, I could not stand her!

Joanna in 1840.  She simply annoyed the hell out of me.

Amanda Harris/Olivia Corey - I was never so glad to see anyone take a fall as she did.  I thought it demeaned Quentin to declare her the only woman for him after all Beth went through for him.

Beth (annoyed me sometimes for being wishy-washy).

1970PT Maggie - aka Doormat.  I was glad to see her go, sorry to see her return.  Bleccch!

Hmmm...the whiny voice of ANY Kathy Cody character grated on my nerves, but I couldn't stand those bratty Leviathan kids, either.

I didn't much like Adam -- in fact, during the last SciFi run, he finally irritated me to a point where I went back through my tapes and had a good laugh when I replayed the scene where Willie was teasing him with the chicken bone/drumstick thingy.

The last Dr. Woodard was repulsive...I nearly threw a party when he got offed.

I thought Anthony George made a sappy Burke and ruined the character, and I think Amanda Harris would have been a lot more interesting if they had left her as a cheesy con artist...she was REALLY boring as "Quentin's true love"...

With the exception of Melanie and Kendrick, I despised ALL of the 1841 Parallel Time characters...I particularly loathed Bramwell and Catherine.

Unlike a lot of fans, though, I got a major kick out of Eric Lang.  :)  What a ham.

Cheers,

Linda

Burke Devlin #1 without a doubt.  Always yelling and screaming ::)     I like Burke Devlin #2.  My husband thinks #2 is wishy washy,   I think he is a gentlemen.   :D

Depends on your definition of a gentleman....

I think the second Burke was too demanding  and bossy.....he expected Vicki to obey his every command, forget everybody else and think about what HE wanted, he told her want he wanted her to do and not do. The first Burke was never that way with Vicki.

Sort of have a love/hate relationship with Adam, I did feel for him at times, other times I wanted to throttle him when
he kidnapped Vicki twice, then tried to kill her twice. I remember him trying to strangle Vicki, he had an evil grin on his face...at that moment I wanted to blast his dang head off!

I know it was Nicholas' idea that Adam demand a mate, and I try to remember that when I watch Adam in his murderous modes, but it sure ain't easy.
Good point. My answer is no, it doesn't absolve you. Not unless you had no other choice. Adam did have a choice but unfortunately the choice he made was the wrong one.

What a fun topic, though I get in on it way after everyone else. Ok here are my top contenders for the most irritating (not to be confused with those characters who I simply despise because they are evil fiends, these are those who got on my nerves) No particular order til you get to the last one.

Burke #2 because he was so parental toward Vicki. Not lover like, parental!
Sabrina (Lisa Richards) because I didn't like her voice. I am very sensitive to voices.
The Leviathan brats, Alexander and Michael.
Aristede/Bruno who are really the same character, just different name!
The first Willie James Hall gakkkkk! The best decision TPTB ever took was to replace him with John Karlen!
Harry Johnson whine whine whine!
Any Roger Davis character, especially Ned Stuart and Jeff Clark.
And the number one most irritating award has to go to...

AMANDA HARRIS whose motto has to be "enter whining." Because the first words out of her mouth were
"Why did you keep me waiting five minutes before I could come up here?" Gak this is the woman Quentin falls for instead of Beth!? GIMME A BREAK! And she was Charles Tate's perfect woman? Will someone explain why the "perfect woman" needs so much makeup? Her false eyelashes were at least an inch long. Well what can you expect from a Roger Davis character??
Daphne Harrige in any time period
Roxann in any time period
Jeff Clark
The doctor who comes to the Old House to examine barnabas after Angelique cursed him. (Apologies for not remembering his name).
All the Leviathan kids.
