Title: if it kept snowing at Collinwood What would happen.
Post by: loril54 on December 02, 2007, 10:15:02 PM
It it kept snowing at Collinwood what would happen? Would there be fights, murders,
interesting conflicts.  What would happen with Cabin Fever. How long would it take to cover Collinwood to the top of the roof.

What would happen with Barnabas as a Vampire or not a Vampire. Would he move to
Collinwood.

Who would do the shoveling? [santa_angry]

Gerard (Who's very sore right now because he had to shovel that hard-packed ice/snow combo with a regular shovel since the snow blower has been broken for years.)

I'm imagining the movie Clue, and and setting it at Collinwood, with Collinses instead of Professor Plum et al.

Who would do the shoveling?
Willie, of course.  And all we know what Barnabas would say when he slipped on the ice!

That would have been an interesting theme to explore had there ever been weather on the show... everyone getting trapped in the house for several days as a Nor'easter raged outside.  Of course, with 40+ rooms people wouldn't really be up each other's butts as they would in a much smaller house.

But if you throw in some new supernatural threat.... ala Rose Red, like people just started disappearing in the house.... that would have been fun. Even that big house would start to feel mighty claustrophobic.

A Rose Red angle could have been very interesting. And just imagine Collinwood adding more rooms to itself than it already has!  [santa_shocked]

Or the existing rooms could stretch and grow, such as a tiny linen closet becoming a large playroom.  Oh wait...  [santa_wink]

The residents of Collinwood could have a great time if they were snowed in.  Imagine a group going from room to room playing a game called 'Who Died Here?" and see who could remember the most deaths in that room.

There's always a seance marathon to be had. See how many dead relatives they can conjure up.

Or play pin the tail on the vampire.

LOL! My guess is while playing they'd probably stumble upon (God Help Us) another door to Parallel Time, a couple more relatives that "went abroad" or perhaps even a real kitchen or bathroom!  [santa_shocked]

Hmm. Maybe. [santa_grin]

They could also play a game called "Name that Curse." Play it in the kitchen . . .

I remember several of the Marilyn Ross DS novels took place during snowstorms & the characters would be essentially stranded on the estate. The characters would go back & forth between Collinwood & the Old House, but were unable to use the roads going into the village. I always liked those DS novels - the wintertime atmosphere was always very effective.

If Barnabas was still a vampire during a blizzard, what would he do about obtaining blood? If he transformed himself into a bat, would he be able to fly through heavy snowfall to the village? It would be interesting to see him in a situation where he would be forced to turn to one of the inhabitants of Collinwood for blood. Would Julia or Willie offer themselves? Would he, in a weak moment, bite Maggie? Carolyn? Elizabeth? Would Quentin be able to help Barnabas? Would would happen to Barnabas if he drank some of Quentin's blood?

If Barnabas drank some of Quentin's blood, it could lead to a very HAIRY situation.

*ducks missiles* sorry, couldn't resist!

I remember that Quentin was portrayed in those awful Ross novels as some extremely punked-out hippie-folkie type--and I'm sure that Selby would have looked adorable in such threads!

They could always asked Cassandra Blair Collins to warm things up with her connections.
Maybe at Collinwood there was a hot air vent to Hell? Many of the Devils minions seemed
to show up there.

Speaking of Barnabas having a very hairy problem.  Would we call them at Vampwolf or a
Werepire?

Aha!  So that's why it never snowed at Collinwood!

Since Collinsport is located by the sea, there is a limited amount of snow to be expected. I believe it has something to do with the 'gulf stream'.  I recently caught a little bit of a movie called 'Cube2'. It's a sequel to 'Cube'.  I didn't see the first one but there is a discussion on Parrallel Time in 'Cube2'.  One of the stars in 'Cube 2' is the actor who played a vampire on a Canadian series called 'Forever Knight'.

I have a friend who has lived in coastal Maine for years, and she is quite excited about the new snowblower she just bought.  But then, I see from your profile that you live in the midwest, Miss_Winthrop, so I figure anything under six feet is small potatoes to you.  I hope you didn't get slammed too hard in the recent storm.

I live in Maine and it snows and snows and snows.  Coastal Mainers get plenty of snow.  One year there was so much snow piled up the bus driver could not see my son waiting at the bus stop.  I live twenty minutes from the coast.  It can snow off and on from the end of November to the end of March.  We are expecting a blizzard this weekend and the snow on the ground in my backyard is up to my knees now.  Unfortunately, it has been too cold and the snow too fluffy to make a snowman.  I will not see grass or flowers until June so yes we do have snow in Maine.

New England winters are a different type of horror altogether.  Mrs. Johnson would have sure that the pantry was well stocked. People probably would have been able to get from Collinwood to the old house and back. But the roads into Collinsport might not get plowed right away. Side roads do not get done as quickly as the main roads and are seldom maintained the same way. So Roger might not be going to the cannery for a bit. More importantly, he wouldn't be making any trips to the Blue Whale either.  [snow_shocked]

Do you remember any titles in particular? I've been wanting to try a couple of these, and I'd love to read some snowy/wintery ones -

The only one I can remember off the top of my head (and I'd check but mine are 2400+ miles away from me at the moment) is #31 Barnabas, Quentin and the Hidden Tomb. I think there's even a skating party in that one. Oh and # 18 Barnabas, Quentin and the Nightmare Assassin. I think that one takes place in January? Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
