I have a been a fan of DS since watching it as a child. Recently I purchased the DVDs and even though I have seen it originally as well as on SCI- Fi, as I was watching the 1795 episodes, I suddenly started to wonder how could the Collins in the present be descendants of the Collins in 1795 since Barnabas was the only son, and Jerimiah had no children? Are they all from Daniel Collins, Millicent's brother??? I don't remember any discussion about who were the parents /grandparents of Quentin... Thanks for any help on this - it is really bugging me!!

As I understand it -[possible SPOILERS FOLLOW]
Daniel survived, marrying and having children (Louis Edmonds plays "Old Daniel" in the 1840 storyline). One of those children was Edith (played by Joan Bennett in 1840 and the delightful Isabella Hoopes as the dying Edith in 1987). Edith goes on to to have a fairly large brood: Edward, Quentin, Carl, and Judith by the 1897 storyline. Edward has a young son, Jamison (played by David Henesy) and it is Jamison who is the father of Roger and Elizabeth.

BTW, I think the above is the "official" family tree. Early in the pre-Barnabas era and even up to the early Barn era, then tree was much different, including a very different story for Jeremiah and Josette and Elizabeth's claims that Jeremiah was her grandfather (or perhaps Great-grandfather.)

Edith was not Daniel's daughter, and she was never played by Joan Bennett. Joan played cousin Flora Collins (who lived at Rose Cottage w/son Desmond) in 1840. In 1840 Terry Crawford played the wickedly evil Edith, wife to Chris Pennock's crippled Gabriel, who was the younger brother of the 1840 Quentin. Daniel was her father-in-law. Isabella Hoopes then, as you stated, played the aged, dying Edith in 1897. Gabriel and Edith had at least 2 children, who were away at boarding school and never seen, only mentioned, in 1840. Edward, Judith, Quentin and Carl from 1897 are the GRANDCHILDREN, not the children, of old Edith. It stands to reason that Gabriel and Edith had a son who was the father of Edward, Judith, Quentin and Carl. You were correct when you stated that Jamison was the father of Roger and Elizabeth. So, Barnabas and Jeremiah are in no way responsible for the continuation of the family, it was all on their cousin Daniel. [hall2_cool]

The thing is, though {spoiler alert}, Gabriel killed Edith in 1840, so how could Grandma Edith be alive in 1897?{end spoiler}. Of course, we all know this was, yet again, one of those writer hiccups. The 1897 storyline came before the 1840 storyline, so it really was a matter of whatever suited the storyline needs at the time, and logic be damned. [BOO]

That's right!! I completely forgot about that! You're right, it was a brain fart on the writer's part. Ya know, Frid was right that time they were all arguing a plot point at a read through and he said, "Oh just go ask the kids outside, they'll know!" [hall_wink]

To look at that another way - Barnabas came back from the dead, Angelique came back from the dead, Quentin came back from the dead, Peter came back from the dead, Daphne came back from the dead. Elizabeth was believed to be dead and was buried ...
