Mention of show Midnight. Mentions Dark Shadows. I know a mention was made of the show by MB I believe but couldn't find it. First show Friday.

The older topic:
OT: New Vampire Series Coming This Fall on CBS
You'd not only have to include the older Calendar board to find it (though a topic on this board does link to the archived thread), you'd need to search for "Moonlight" and not "Midnight." But thanks for the plug. ;)
The article confirms my fears about the show. :- Thank you for the link.

Several people on the IMDB boards for this series are describing it as an out-and-out remake of Forever Knight.
It's actually on a channel that I receive so I may have a look to see just how awful it proves to be (Blood Ties certainly set an unusually low benchmark for awfulness in vampire series).

I must have missed the funeral for "imagination" but surely one was held some time back. They should take a lesson from Showtime's brilliant DEXTER if nothing else.

Sadly, this could be said for our own Mr. Curtis, who repeatedly repeated himself when it came to DS! ::)
-
Sadly, DC repeated himself not just when it came to DS, not just in the horror genre, but when it came to too many things he did. There are quite a few topics on the forum that detail how DC lifted, often shot for shot, sequences out of previous projects and incorporated them into new ones. [sad3]
-
I agree with you and Buzz on this. At least DC and company (mostly his writers not so much DC) sought to create a new twist on the lifted material. There are 36 basic dramatic plots as defined by George Polti in his landmark book on the subject. There's almost always bound to be one of these plots used in any story but it's the original take on the basic plot that makes the material fresh. I realize this isn't news to anyone here. :o Curtis did inject some freshness into his various takes on the horror genre (he didn't create Barnabas) throughout his career though his post-DS leading men were invariably dark and craggy-faced like Jonathan Frid.
Here are the 36 basic plots to a dramatic story:
This is condensed from Georges Polti's _The 36 Dramatic Plots_.
Each short plot description starts with the title of the plot
pattern. After a hyphen the main characters to be found in the
plot are given, separated by commas.

Here's an interview on TVGuide.com with Moonlight star Alex O'Loughlin in which, among other things, he explains how he thinks his show differs from the shows it's being compared to: Interview with a Vampire: Inside CBS' Bloody-fun Moonlight (http://www.tvguide.com/news/070928-02). Also, it should be interesting to learn what the "rules" are that the show will be playing by - particularly because every new vampire venture seems to create its own.
-
I just read on TVGuide.com that in its second week, and in spite of being opposite the season premiere of critics' darling Friday Night Lights, Moonlight easily won its time period. I've also read that CBS is pleased with the show's performance thus far. So, despite what some naysayers have said, it's looking like Moonlight might just be sticking around. And that can't be a bad thing so far as the vampire genre goes...
-
It was bound to happen sooner or later - that is the linking of Moonlight to DS - but in, of all places, a review of Moonlight's compititon, Woman's Murder Club (http://www.buffalonews.com/entertainment/story/189229.html):
It’s up against “Moonlight,” the latest not-too-bad contribution to TV’s traditional passion for sexing up vampire stories a la “Dark Shadows,”

I just read today in the papers that Fox has canceled the yet-to-air New Amsterdam, which has already shot seven episodes. Personally, I'm a bit glad as the show stole from Pete Hamill's novel Forever. So, as one new show with an immortal character gains new life, one gets snuffed out!

Charles, I'll bet you could write one hell of a book on pop culture. I'd buy it. Your encylopedic knowledge never fails to impress me. nancy
