Title: OT: I Never Sang For My Father
Post by: ProfStokes on May 16, 2002, 07:22:19 AM
In Theatre Appreciation class today, we watched the film version of Robert Anderson's play starring Melvyn Douglas and Gene Hackman--and featuring Lovelady Powell and Daniel Keyes in supporting roles!  I noticed her name in the opening credits, but missed his until the end.  I didn't even recognize our former cemetery caretaker in his role as Dr. Mayberry.  I just thought that this would be interesting DS trivia to pass along.

That's cool!  Tell me, what was she like?  She impressed me with the one episode she did, but I've never seen anything else of Lovelady Powell's.

She has a cameo in "The Possession of Joel Delaney", which also features Peter Turgeon and possibly another DS alumni I can't place at the moment...

Powell played Norma, a gratuitous role that didn't appear in the original play.  As the main character's mistress, she had a brief bedroom scene.  I thought that she acted lilke a tease.  Like Portia Fitzsimmons in DS, it was only a small part, but she played it convincingly.
