Just reported on CNN:
Merv Griffin died this morning at 82.
In 1969 he interviewed J Frid.
I believe this interview is on one of the MPI discs.
Griffin called DS a "phenomenom" and said his kids watched it.
In the 80s, he interviewed Karlen.
Merv Griffin was a show business legend who had an amazing life.
RIP.....

Griffin did at least two interviews with David Selby in the 1980's when Falcon Crest was on the air. One of them is posted on YouTube. (http://www.youtube.com/results.php?search_query=%22david+selby%22+griffin) I have audio from both interviews on my David Selby site (http://www.ldrweb.com/davidselby/clips/with_merv_griffin.htm). (The video quality of my copies wasn't good enough to upload, and, at the time those clips were added to the site, I was also having to operate under bandwidth and file size restrictions.)

He was extremely rich, and wrote the Jeopardy theme (and invented the show?), in case someone doesn't know.
"He didn't want to do it.... he never wants to do it!" Just a running gag from his show.

Dear ol' Merv,
He was a big part of the late '60s and '70s as was Shadows itself. I can't tell you how many times I watched his show to see his many interviews with Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock.
Speaking of which, I wish someone would locate the "Tonight Show" Interview with Johnny and Lara Parker, unless his estate is keeping too tight a lid on leasing out such.
RIP Merv. This time, you won't "be right back."

Didn't he also interview Joan Bennett on his show during the height of DS fame? Or was that somebody else who interviewed her?

Joan Bennett was on the Mike Douglas Show.
That interview is available thru MPI.

Mike Douglas - that's it. I knew it was on an MPI somewhere (I think the documentary made back in the early '90's and aired on Sci-Fi). I remember Joan wore a very short dress, so very late-sixties/early-seventies.

You know only on this board could someone else relate to this, but...ever since I heard the news that Merv had passed away, two things keep playing on the old memory banks..."We'll be right back with Orson Welles who will do a magic trick for us" and Merv leaning in to Frid, asking"...is it sick mail?" lol ;D (Merv was asking about Frid's fan mail)
Michael ;)
