I urge everyone who plans on attending the DS August event to buy their tickets NOW. I just heard from a DS event organizer handling tickets that tickets are going very, very fast - "people are coming out of the woodwork, the metalwork and the gaspipes" including people who haven't been to a fest in over 10 years and lots of new names. There are fans inquiring about tickets from overseas. The venue is not particularly large so those who really want to be there should move on it now.
This is not a publicity-garnishing email but a true heads-up that these tickets are not going to last long and that you should make your move and purchase what you want sooner rather than later, as in do it now, do not dilly. ;)

Thanks for letting us know, Nancy. Everyone I'm rooming with is covered, but this is good to know because there are some people I'm aware of who haven't sent in their fees yet. I'll urge them to hurry up! This is going to be so exciting, though! Wow! I'll bet it's going to be SRO!

I figured that would be the case. I got all my ducks in order. Got a great flight deal and have already received my event receipt. Now I just have to be patient and try not to rush the summer along.

I am waiting on the ever rising cost of gas. If it gets anywhere near $3.50 a gallon, I will not be there.

I don't know about other parts of the country, but around here gas prices dropped from $3.07 to $2.86 this week. I guess those national news reports that said the gas refineries that were closed for repairs but which have recently reopened would help lower gas prices were right.

The hotel website says 1,000 in that main room (unless I am looking at the wrong thing) and around 895 for a banquet.

Gas here was $3.40 on Friday and Saturday down to $3.07. Maybe those that are driving could find other people going who live close by and car pool.
895 fit in the banquet room so that's seems like pretty many. They usually have about 8 to a table so there should be plenty of tables.

Gee, Janet and all, I would not let the price of gas deter me from the trip, unless you are doing a lot of driving in the Tarrytown vicinity. And if you are still iffy on the Fest, remember if you just pay for the Fest itself you are only out 30 dollars if you find you can' t go, as you can cancel your hotel reservation day of arrival with no penalty, which would free the room up for latecomers...

At the full rate, unfortunately. Once the block of rooms is sold out, it's the Marriott's policy to not offer the Fest rate for rooms that become available again.

I received my receipt and confirmation in the mail today. I am so psyched about going! It'll be my first Fest type thing since Halloween 2001. Anyone else going to dress up or am I going to be the only weirdo in costume? (If I can pull it off in time that is). ;D
