Post by: Willie Loomis on March 21, 2007, 06:56:47 PM
why does everyone feel the need to strangle julia?

don't you feel bad for the old girl?  :-[

Cause women with balls generally get pushed around by men without them.

She was a person ahead of her time. She was going where no one had gone before. Go Julia.

I think that Grayson was a fighter also.

Dr. Julia Hoffman was a strong-willed, strong-minded, outspoken woman and these qualities did not endear her to 1967 Barnabas. He came from an era where the women were seen, not heard.

Eventually he got over his outdated attitude and began a warm and beautiful friendship with Julia.

I think the more pertinent question here is: Why didn't Julia feel the need to slap and throttle everyone else at Collinwood?

Okay, so she slapped the heck outta Cassandra. Any harder and she would've knocked the woman's wig off. But honestly, why do you think she gave everyone sedatives? Because if she had to listen to all their complaining and impending doom talk for one more second, she WOULD HAVE throttled them.

I can see it now. Vicki has gone through yet another round of her "I don't understand" speeches and Julia, out of sedatives because she used them all to put Liz to sleep (which might also explain why she was pronounced dead when she really wasn't---too many sed's), decides to throttle Vicki. She takes her around the neck and says:

"Dammit Vicki! You never understand anything! Well, I'll make you understand something. PAIN! P-A-I-N! Can ya dig? MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Julia DID get her own back by bitch-slapping more people than anybody else at Collinwood.  At last count, besides Dear Dead Cassandra (hahahaha), Julia bitch-slapped Mrs. Johnson, Joe Haskell, and Sabrina.  She may have bitch-slapped Willie at one point, too--I honestly forget.

I sometimes wonder whether bitch-slapping was an approved technique with the American Psychiatric Association, given how frequently Julia used it to help various individuals "calm" themselves...

I can't say I've ever seen it used in real life (maybe I just don't know the right people  :D), but slapping someone across the face to "calm" them is certainly a dramatic device that's often resorted to on TV, in films, etc.  ;)

Now there's an idea for a video montage: the many bitch-slappings courtesy of Dr. Julia Hoffman. Put it on YouTube and watch fans flock!

Then as counterpart, show various clips of poor Magda as she was shoved, slapped, pushed, grabbed, choked, etc., throughout most of her stint in 1897. Grayson was definitely a physical actress on DS.

I think you are correct in adding Willie to Julia's bitch-slapped list. IIRC, she slapped him one time when he was getting all fussy about having to stake someone--I think it was Tom Jennings.

On the other hand, she wasn't the victim of the supernatural nearly as often as everyone else.  Most people were placed under  spells or curses, made the helpless servant of a vampire or witch, posessed by various people / entities, turned into a werewolf, held captive by Frankenstein, etc.  Yet it was fairly rare for any of that stuff to happen to Julia.

There was only one spell she fell under, Barnabas ! She had a soft spot.
Maybe there was a thing that had to do something with Vampires, Tom and Roxanne both put her under a spell.
By the way a video would be great. What song would go with it?

As for Julia being put under a spell, etc. when it DID happen it seemed to be WAY more spectacular than with anybody else. Two examples:
Julia's delirious "affair" with Vampire Tom Jennings.  Didn't somebody up there comment about what a "physical" actress Grayson was on the show??
and:
Julia being carried out of Collinwood by Jeb's zombie band of renown.  I remember my jaw dropping back in '70 when I saw THAT.
There was also:
Julia becoming the patsy-in-thrall to Gerard in 1995.  Grayson REALLY put some oomph into those scenes!
I'm sure there's more I could cite, but I'll stop here.

G.

Artist: Keith Murray

Uhh come on, get it up y'all
Uhh come on, come on, come on, come on

A blunt is a cigar with pot inside instead of tobacco.

Definitely.   ^-^

You could go country and use Hank Williams, Jr.'s "I'd Love to Knock the Hell Out of You":

Oh I'd love to knock the hell out of you
and if you keep messing around I'm going to.
So if your looking for trouble, tell ya' whatcha do,
come over and get the shit knocked out of you.

I never daydream about the lyrics in my everyday life or anything.  >:D

Julia was victimized by two vampires: Tom Jennings and Roxanne Drew. She was also tormented by Barnabas shortly before the 1795 flashback when he tried to drive her insane by conjuring up an image of Dr Woodard's ghost and phantom phone calls an such. Also, Julia had to experience the dream curse. So she had her fair share of supernatural experiences, perhaps not as severe as what happened to certain other people on the show..
