Title: We Love Julia!
Post by: Gothick on January 24, 2007, 03:38:42 PM
Although today is *officially* Cheap Insufferable Pig (in Lusciously Tight Trousers) Day, after viewing the day's slideshow I also feel moved to declare it "We Love Julia... let us count the ways" day!

We were graced with a truly wonderful snapshot of Julia and Barnabas together that beautifully expresses their relationship with one another (from today's 1969 episode) *and* an almost as fabulous portrait of Julia and Quentin from the Leviathan period!

Definitely a red-letter day for Julia-shippers!

cheers, G.

I would have loved to see Julia and Barnabas play the couple. I can really imagine them haveing a fight as a couple. That would have been great. There was just great chemistry.

I believe they had 'buddy' chemistry, but not 'romantic' chemistry.  Now Jon and Lara?  Yeah!  THEY had chemistry!  Just my 2 pesos...;)

But isn't that how the writers wrote it. It could have been writen different!  :D

Not sure I understand your question, but it has nothing to do w/HOW something is written, or how WELL something is written.  Chemistry is just something that IS, or ISN'T, there between two actors.  Watching Jonathan and Grayson I don't 'feel' romantic chemistry between them.  But when watching Jon and Lara I do, especially when they played Bramwell and Catherine.

Barnabas and Julia rule! [banana]

I always make it a point to at least watch one episode with the two of them together, whether as friends or enemies.

Totally love Grayson Hall. I finally saw "Night of the Iguana". I wasn't surprised that she had been nominated for an oscar.
I love what she did with her Hoffman character in DS. Nobody could have played it better'n GH. I also believe that GH paved the way for woman doctors of the time. She was confident and ballzee. Go Julia!

And here they are so that people will know what's being discussed even though the slideshow has changed:

1969: Ep #674 - Recent events lead Barnabas and Julia to suspect Chris is a
werewolf.

1970: Ep #935 - Quentin asks Julia to leave him alone for the time being to grieve
for Amanda (as all DS fans are surely doing).

Recently saw "Night of the Iguana" and was very pleased with it.  Love GH's performance!!  I also love Magda; watching the 1897 storyline and miss her tremendously when she's not on.  I enjoy Julia and Barnabas' relationship but find Magda's relationship with the vampire very refreshing... being different and all.  Love her defiance towards the vampire in the beginning.  I sort of wonder why Barnabas never bit her since he never had her completely under control.  Alas, Julia is the most well-known and popular role of GH's. [I have no complaints in that department.]

[rofl10]  I haven't watched those episodes in so long I can't remember Amanda being "that" bad.  Others share your feelings though!!  One fan may just speak up sometime soon so I will not speak for her.  Most of the male fans I've heard from don't dislike her as much as the females.  I wonder why?   [idontknow]

You really have to wonder why? They're males. The answer should be pretty obvious.  [b003]

Speaking from one female to another, I never had a problem with Amanda as a character myself....I just didn't think she and Quentin had any chemistry, romantic or otherwise, period. I liked her much better as Tim Shaw's money-happy, jewel-lovin', stringing-Trask-along honey. [winkg]

By the time Amanda left the show though I must confess I wasn't sorry to see her go. That whole Mr. Best nonsense bored me silly.

I'm more vocal about the characters that I love and hate than many people, I can get pretty worked up about either one. I don't hate Amanda, not like Trask or the truly wicked characters but I just feel she's a total waste. And to have Quentin fall for her after Beth is an abomination.

Well my wonder was rhetorical because I have a pretty good idea why most, if not all, men enjoy Amanda.  She is pleasant eye candy for one and I don't have a problem with her, right now.  I'll wait and see if I change my mind later.  I do think Quentin could have done better but ...

Yes, they didn't seem to develop the Amanda character very much.

Poor, poor Donna McKechnie. She thought that loud round of applause when they showed Olivia's demise at Fest came from fans showing their appreciation for her work. Little does she know that there are many of us who scream and clap just as much when we watch that scene at home.  >:D

Amanda was Vicki's twin sister, "I don't understand" being the link between them.

LOL. but isn't this topic about Julia. Later in the show when they gave Grayson better outfits. There was the nice blue dress and also the orange outfit(or rust) Some charactors had to have nice clothes to come across. Grayson was great in what ever she wore. She came through.

I love Grayson's "entrance" in episode 675 (on today's slideshow).  The shots I'm thinking of aren't among the captures in the slides, but as I recall the episode, we see Julia's hand holding a cigarette, a shot of her coat, and then a close-up of the Doctor herself looking even more world-weary and "over it all" than usual.  FABULOUS.

Grayson Hall is my religion--I admit it!

Do any of you know what episode it is?? I don't remember. love to see it. That would be great. I think that she saved her character in the beginning because of how she came through.

Well, Julia and Quentin were talking about Amanda.  ^-^  But seriously, topics often go off on tangents. That's why forums come equipped with methods to split posts out of topics if/when a tangent takes on a major life of its own.  ;)

I've never known heartbreak to prompt tears of laughter. But to each his/her own, I suppose.  ;)

Mine as well, I love that woman!  [ghost_wink]  And boy can she make an entrance, I also love to see Barney & Julia together, whether they are friends  or eniimes. I DO think they had romantic chemistry it just came across subtle.  I sensed that Jonathan played it romantic as well, but for some reason Barnbas couldn't admit his love for her and didn't get the chance since the show was cancelled and he refused to play Barney again.

Actually, Frid didn't refuse to play Barn again. Well, at least not on the show (he did in the second movie - but Julia had already been killed off in the first one, so Barn and Julia wouldn't have appeared together in the second anyway). Frid had grown tired of playing Barn as a vampire, that's all.  [ghost_wink]
