Title: Who's Responsible for that Haircut anyway?
Post by: Julia99 on May 02, 2002, 04:56:02 PM
Ahhhh, I've returned from a southern california trip wherein I didn't get shot trying to inspect a facility, yipee!  Anyway onto all things Grayson Great. . .I've wondered, who **did** cut her hair?  Did she frequent Vidal's salon?  Originally I read that Curtis said "Julia" wouldn't have such a modern, chic hairdo + he felt it made it her look 'mannish' hence the wig. .. . .I like it okay but its better when it growns and inch or two. . .It was funny to see the 2 pre-new do episodes, it was clear Grayson and the DS hairdresser weren't giving her wig the previous amount of attention they had been. . "Its soon to be gone so screw it. . ."

I like it, quite daring for the time. I especially appreciate that they actually acknowledged it at least twice in the show. More often you see someone look totally different and no comments whatsover.

I defintely think it says more about "Grayson" than Julia. . .

I like the hair cut. That wig really got on my nerves. I think julia has a stunning face. Ever notice that there are more close ups of julia's face then anyone else. I started watching the show 2 years ago. My hubby watched it as a child. And when he comented on julia being less then a knock out I knocked him over the head with a pillow. He now says how truely stunning she is LOL.

Is there a spelling ck. on this board as my spelling is awful?

The directors did seem to try fancy camera angels for Grayson . .remember the BIG magnifying glass coming up in a few days in Dr. Lange's office. . .the camera focused on her eyes and the bridge of her nose for quite some time. . that was pretty artsy fartsy for daytime tv. . .

Very true.  Nobody seemed to notice or care when Sheriff Patterson suddenly morphed into Vince O'Brien, then became Dana Elcar again the next day only to turn into Angus Cairns a few days later.  ;)

I like Julia's new hair cut. It seems to frame her face nicely and shows off her lovely eyes. Im not certain of the time frame, but I think it was the 1995 storyline when they go into the future, I thought her hair looked nice there too. It was alittle longer and had a nice wave to it.
Juliaa99, glad to hear you had a nice trip!

One of the things I found fascinating about Julia's new dew was that it was very similar to the one that Roger Daltrey of The Who was wearing a few years eariler.

I heard that Grayson's wing was finally consigned to the bin at the behest of Dan Curtis' wife, who told him Grayson's own hair looked better, even though he felt the style was wrong for the character.

Well, I know I'm in the minority with this thought but, I actually kind of liked the style of the wig.  I don't like the fact that is WAS a wig but, I think a slightly shorter version using her own hair would have looked nice.  Not a fan of the super short cut she first had but, as mentioned, it looked better later when it grew out a bit.

Have to admit it was a jolt to see Julia get a haircut but I got used to it.

But I did like her hairstyle a lot better during the 1840 story, I thought she looked her best there.

I just watched HODS this weekend for about the 10,000 time and couldn't help thinking of this thread.  The length of Julia's do was pretty good - not too long or short.  But, good grief was she ever suffering from severe bed head in a few of the shots - especially as she was walking around her lab figuring out Barnabas' "condition" (vampirism is NOT a disease you know).  Her hair in that scene reminds me of a doll I had called Penny Brite - her hair style looked almost identical was always flat in the back from laying in the Barbie case. Maybe Grayson got bored between scenes and took a few cat naps.

I've just learned a bundle because I had no idea that the original Julia do was a wig! It was shock to me when it changed when I originally watched it on SciFi, which is probably when this thread was started! lol! But I like the shorter look better, and do agree that her hair looked really good in 1840!

Now......I think Carolyn's hair was more in need of some attention. When it was short and cute it was just right--it looked great! Like a comb had been run through it! But in later years when it got long, it just looked stringy to me and like it needed a comb some kinda bad! [female_skull]

I didn't know her early hair was a wig...they did a good job of blending it.  I personally liked the short style...I also liked it during 1840 as well.
