I can understand Dr. Lang revealing a general condition to Vicki and Barnabas about each other, but it seemed that he was getting pretty specific when talking to her, as well as questioning her about him. Should he really be revealing that much about another patient?

No he should not. He was probably a bit too excited due to the that he was treating his first (probably) vampire.
That is of course a doctor's dream come true!
Seriously of course you are correct. A Dr. would not reveal a patients condition so openly. But there are exceptions to that rule. Such as mental state / relationships. But not with another unrelated patient.

How else would we know what all the Dr. knows?! We would not want him to go around talking to himself!

No he should not. But even worse was Dr. Dave Woodard, who blabbed specifics about Maggie's condition to everyone in Collinsport who would listen, not just Julia or The Sheriff. He surely would've had the State Medical Board come down and reprimand him had they known.
Lang, on the otherhand, is just a fruitcake.
But then again, we're in DS-Land, so ethics don't always apply. ;)

Well, there is an alternative. We could have him thinking loudly to himself. This happened during that famous Julia "Home Alone"-at Collinwood episode, when she was being terrorized by the ghost of Dr. Woodard and other asundry frights that Barnabas willed her way. We kept in tune with her inner thoughts, moment by moment.
I would enjoy hearing Dr. Lang think to himself. I'm sure he'd be able to think so loudly that even his paused tape recorder could successfully record his thoughts ... ;)
