Title: d.s. dolls?
Post by: michael c on January 05, 2007, 01:52:13 AM
this is going to sound like the absolute gayest thing ever but...

yesterday i saw an item in the newspaper about how the company "madame alexander"(a manufacturer of expensive, collectable dolls)is planning to launch a line of dolls in the likenesses of the five main actresses on the primetime soap opera "desperate housewives".

these tiny drama queens will not come cheaply.it's expected that they will retail for about $130.00 each.that takes a pretty devoted fan.aquiring the entire set will set one back nearly $700.00!

now i enjoy desperate housewives and watch it weekly but i certainly cannot imagine wanting to collect these(although the teensy bree replica is darling). ::)

however it made me think...what if it was a finely detailed line-up of our d.s. leading ladies that was going into production(as apposed to plastic "action figures").?

would i find myself insanely covetous of these?willing to shell out big $$$?would twelve inch versions of vicki, carolyn and maggie be lining a curio cabinet in my home?would i become "that person"?

this thought scared the hell out of me!!! :o

would anyone else go for these?

It depends on the likeness....

But if the likeness was good, then yeah, I would. I already collect 'action' figures, and I would have no problem adding dolls to my collection.

I've collected dolls for many years-even got a Madam Alexander for a birthday present once. Most of mine are old dolls-esp. the "storybook" line and international dolls. But yes, I'd go for a DS line of dolls IF they were well done. Yep--that makes me "one of those"!  ;)

oh-oh.

i hope i didn't give offense.

it was meant in jest.needless to say i probably would in fact become one of "those people" who obsessively collected these little cuties. ;)

Don't think anyone *was* offended sweetie.  ;)

Would *I* get these dolls, hmmmm, not at that price.  That's why I'm glad Majestic Studios have dolls, and I have my Barnabas doll proudly displayed in my living room!  Hope they do a Series 2 and that it includes Julia, would love to put her up there on the shelf next to her man! ;)

None taken by me at least!

If there were dolls, believe me I would get them. I'm still trying to figure out how I could build myself a dollhouse version of Collinwood. It'd be a massive undertaking, but I am seriously thinking of doing it.

MSCbryk, there was a "Clay Julia" doll available on eBay a few years ago.  A friend of mine bought one and loves it.  It's by somebody who goes by the moniker of "ClayGuy," I think.  It sort of made me think of what would have been the result had Grayson Hall done a role in that old 1965 Rankin/Bass film, Mad Monster Bash (if ANYONE out there remembers that--it's the one with Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller--endearing in a somewhat naff way).

I personally don't collect such things, but I believe the Clay Julia figurine was quite reasonably priced.  I do think "Madam Alexander" is WAY over the top but I know others think the same about the cult of DS, so I guess we're all even, eh?

cheers, Gothique (the living incarnation of "THE GAYEST THING EVER," trust me, darling...)

I would get them - I would just have to be more selective and choose only my absolute favorites.

I do wonder where Majestic has gotten to.....haven't heard a thing about any of their lines since SDCC - and they only talked about the new BSG there to my knowledge. No mention of DS. I'm hoping for a Josette and Willie, myself. But it seems like the company has vanished. ???

I used to collect things but not so much anymore.

I would probably be motivated to buy an expensive Liz doll to make myself laugh (which would be well worth the money). And if it resembled Liz from let's say the first episode (black evening gown, hair piled high, pearls, and those fabulous earings, lol) I would probably not be able to resist, and make it a talking Liz doll ("Because I choose to do so!" "I'll Have Mrs Johnson put on some tea" "Roger! You're a fool!" "Let me be honest Miss Winters, David's not likely to be like any other little boy you've ever met" etc) it would be a done deal.

I haven't quite figured out where I'd want the 'press here to hear me talk' spot to be - maybe the updo.

Yeah, well, since I cut my hair, the camouflage is well and truly lacquered solid.  A friend actually had the impudence to turn to me the other day and say, "Darling, you've gone quite Republican."

It was only because I had inexplicably misplaced my Destructo button that she is still among the living.

cheers, G.

Words seldom fail me, but the Norman Bates figure in the "Midnight/cult Movies" section... I'm truly beyond speech.

Wow, I like the Barnabas and Angelique of "clayguy"--but, is it just me, or does Quentin look more like Leonard Nimoy's Spock?! ;)

I have both the Barnabas and Quentin dolls, and obtained them at this past fest for relatively cheap. If they were the prices that the Desperate Housewives (DS for short--coincidence? I THINK NOT!! lol) I would probably put them on my x-mas list or my b-day list in hopes that someone would buy them for me, because I'd be hard pressed to shell out that much money for one doll. I might buy one, maybe Barnabas, but after that, I'd have to recieve all the others as gifts.

Speaking of future dolls, KLS said at the fest during one of her many times on stage that she just heard that she was "going to be made into a doll". So, given that, I'd be willing to bet that Majestic will be coming out with a Josette doll sometime in the future. I'll be looking forward to it, because I think they've done a wonderful job with the action figures they've released so far.

Come on Julia doll!  ;)  I can just see her now, w/her white lab coat, medallion, purse slung on her arm, medical bag FILLED w/sedatives and 3 heads--helmut hair, short hair, long hair from later in the series.   8)  She'll look great up there on the shelf w/her man.   ;D

I'd like to see one of Julia's interchangable heads have her signature GASP look with her hands over her mouth. *wink*

That would work, like maybe from the scene where
she's in the mausoleum and the blood is running down the walls and she says, "It's BL........OO...............D!!"
;)  Then you could pose her hands in front of her face.   ;D

i'm with dom in that if there was a doll of liz done up a' la episode one(the gown.the jewels.the towering updo)i'd be tempted to go for it.

i like buzz's idea of julia and all of her medical accoutrements.to be worn over lime-green tweed of course.needless to say vicki would have to come with a complete wardrobe of sleeveless dresses.i'd like maggie in her waitresses uniform with perhaps a change into a nightgown.for a character like laura or angelique who existed in various centuries she could come with an historical costume as well as a "present day" ensemble.

i hope "madame alexander" offers a layaway plan. :P

Maggie dolls could also come with an ash blonde wig.  Do ME dolls talk?  Cuz Maggie could call everyone a "j-e-r-k."

I really hope that's true. Not only because Josette's one of the characters I most want, but also because that simply means the line is continuing and is not dead, which, if it were, would make me very sad. And I agree. I think they did a fantastic job on the first figures. My only -very minor- complaint is that I wish they came with accessories.

And she could also have a head w/the blond wig.  They could do what they did w/Barnabas for Laura and Angelique, one in modern clothes, one in period costume.

Do ME dolls talk?  Cuz Maggie could call everyone a "j-e-r-k."

That would be TOO funny!  ;)

Yes, one in present day and one in period costuming would be great! I've not heard of Majestic--do they specialize in TV dolls/action figures, or are they a general doll making company?

Majestic is a small company that make 12 inch figures of television/movie characters. They've done The Munsters, the original Battlestar Galactica, Dark Shadows, and the new Battlestar Galactica. They did a Zuni Warrior from the Trilogy of Terror, too.

I've noticed that their website is down. Wonder if they're going to update it.

I don't think they'll make two different versions of any of the other characters. It makes sense to do that with Barnabas because he's the main character, but I don't seem them doing that with smaller characters. I think an extra head is possible, though, like they did with the Quentin figure.

The Barnabas doll has 3 heads too, regular, vampire and old man.

I meant that they only released one Quentin figure - for example, they didn't release a present day Quentin with the 1897 Quentin. We only got 1897 Quentin. I think that's how every other character will be done as well, with Barnabas as the exception.

I have his Quentin of course.

Thanks for the link (and ask me if I'm surprised about the Quentin.... [b003])  These look like they'd be a nice addition to the Majestic Quentin I got at the Fest.
