Just want to wish everyone a fun and save Halloween night!!  Watch out for those vampires, witches, floating heads and zombies that might be lurking in the neighborhood!

Hope you have a great one too Annie!
I'm going to be an old curmudgeon and not even hand out candy this year.
For some reason I'm just not in the mood for it -
that and I don't feel like hearing the dogs bark their heads off for 3 hours.

ITA Willie!  I was *just* thinking that yesterday as I watched the show "Scariest Places on Earth" marathon on the Family Channel.  And of course I taped Celebrity Paranormal Project and the night before taped the last part of a Top 100 countdown of the scariest movies ever made.

What is it about DS fans that we love stuff like this?!   [hall2_grin]

Well, I have a personal theory as to why I can't seem to get enough horror (gothic, DS-esque type vs those hideous slasher films of the 70' and 80's) and why these days I'm stuck on the ghost hunter shows.  I think, for me at least, it has something to do with working through "scary stuff" that has been following me around since childhood.  I can remember being totally freaked out by "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" with the Banshee and the flying horse-drawn hearse.  Then there was a children's book of James Whitcomb Riley poems my parents read to me with a story about Little Orphan Annie who was telling a tale to younger children by the firelight about a bratty little girl who was eventually "snatched away" by two big black shadowy things (anyone ever heard of shadow ghosts?).  I also had an older cousin who would tell his own version of Sleepy Hollow enhancing the part about the headless horseman just to creep out the little kids.  And, when I was about 7, I can remember begging this older boy who lived behind us to tell me ghost stories...which, being about 11 himself was always glad to have the opportunity to scare someone.  Dark Shadows came along when I was 11 - which I think was just the right age to get totally into it.  I think my sister was a little young for it because, though she watched then, it hasn't stuck with her as long as it did me.  That or she just doesn't have the same kind of demons trolling her.   [hall2_wink]

Thanks for the personal stuff, Bee!   May I call you Aunt Bee?   'Cause I really want to.   Don't worry, it'll pass.

Not only don't I have cable, but the signal booster went bust, and I live in the fade-out zone between two megalopolises, where nothing comes in too well.    What do I have on tape... there's DS of course, but I'm burnt out on it for awhile... the two Elvira movies plus one she hosted.   That's nice stuff to watch when you're pre-occupied with things going bust.

I have a horrible reworking of that Vincent Price-Diana Rigg movie... Theatre of Blood?  Anyway, it's a much more disgusting version and I already tried watching it again and my constitution isn't up for it ("Bloodsucking Freaks" from the mid 70s)

Happy Halloween everybody!  Our house is on the dead end street, so nobody ever comes here.  But our granddaughter, who lives with us, goes everywhere.  This year, my daughter Tessa and her boyfriend Josh are taking Erin out.  They are going as Mario and Princess Toadstool.  Erin is going as Supergirl. [hall_grin]

Again....Happy Halloween!

All the best to everyone on the board on perhaps my favorite day of the year!!! [hall2_grin] [hall_grin]
I took today off and figured while I was home I would have the plumbers over for a minor repair. On their way out, they looked at the bookcase, and commented on the complete set of Dark Shadows VHS tapes. I stated as the show was on almost 5 years, all the episodes cover over 250 tapes. They asked, "Have you watched them all?" My reply was of course, yes, all of them.
I bought the 75th Anniversay special DVD of Frankenstein at Costco last night, and the cashiers sparked a conversation. "Oh, look at this (she turned to mthe other register) You ever seen this? That Boris Karloff was a great actor! This here's a classic. I love all them. Vincent Price, Barnabas Collins. Those are the classics."
Dark Shadows is always with us. Let's keep a little Halloween spirit all year long.
Have the best of all Hauntings today!

Well tonight is the night I give candy to every child in the state of Maine.  I found out from a neighbor that the reason we have such a huge number of children for such a small neighborhood is because parents from out in the rural countryside bring their children by car to the neighborhood.  I bought 400+ pieces of candy this year.  I do hope there is some left over for me.

Hey, Mark is that Large Marge from the Pee Wee Herman movie

Happy Halloween everybody!   >:D [hall2_cheesy] [hall_grin]

I was a bit disappointed - only 4 kids showed up here tonight!  I have LOTS of Luna bars left over.  I think maybe we would draw more kids if we had Halloween decorations (or at least Jack-O-Lanterns) in our front yard.  Maybe next year...

We were having a very nice, quiet Halloween, with only a handful of trick-or-treaters...until the bunnies showed up.

I hear ya Sally, I only had about a dozen or so, I was more than a little disappointed!  Decorating makes little or no difference as we DECORATED to the nines!   [hall2_cry]  Anyway, gave all my leftover candy to my neighbors to take to work so I'm not tempted.   [hall2_cool]

I had the "thundering hoardes" as usual.  My decorating for the holiday was minimal this year.  I put up a lighted spider and my carved Jack o'lantern.  We also played the new CD with Dark Shadows to the visiting trick or treaters.(I bet none of them recognized it.)  My husband usually puts out spider webs with plastic spiders and a scarecrow holding his head in his lap but we had a storm and high wind this past weekend so we ran out of time to decorate.  We have a lot of kids because the surrounding rural countryside does not have street lights or sidewalks.  It is just too dangerous for the kids to go trick or treating.

As tragic and horrifying as it is, thanks so much for sharing that footage, Mark. And let it be a lesson to others - bunnies may look cute, but they're horribly vicious creatures. (But then, no one has to tell Buffy's Anya that.  [hall2_wink])

Hope you all had a great Halloween. We had quite a crowd of kids big and small at my house. Close to 75 before 7:30 pm. I ran out of candy by then and had to close shop. I spent my evening in bliss watching all the old horror movies and marathons and I think I saw the Corpse Bride about 4 times this past week. Love that movie.

Mark Rainey, departed this Earth, October 31, 2006.    Then posted on a message board, but never mind.     His last words: "Fear the lepus!   And somebody pick up my dry-cleaning!    Dying is easy, comedy is hard!  Except death-by-bunny!    That's really painful!  AAAAAAAA!!!  What did I tell you-- painful!!   I just run off at the mouth sometimes, sorry.... now, another thing, and this is really important....  AAARGH!!!""
