I hope we can keep this as a thread separate from the Shadowgram announcement about this film.
This is more than a "movie with DS clips"
First, about the clips:
The film is set in 1978-79, when only the first Barnabas year was in syndication. Two clips are seen onscreen from 1795:
1. Abigail discovering Barnabas' coffin in the Old House basement.
2. Suki Forbes being attacked by the bat.
The color opening credits are seen, and the opening theme is heard in it's entirety twice.
One scene from the film ends with a DS music cue.
Though all are seen onscreen, Frid, Clarice & Jane Draper
get no screen credit.
The closing credits say: Dark Shadows Courtesy of Dan Curtis Prods., nothing more.
The film itself is brilliant.
It's themes of mental illness hit close to home for me, as I've lived with bi-polar disease most of my life. (I'm now taking meds & symptom free)
The film effectively shows how the illness of one~how being around someone who's sick~ can cause symptons of illness to appear in others.
But it also shows that it's possible to come out of such situations and to live a good life, as Augustine Burroughs, whose autobiography this film is based on, and his foster Mom Agnes (Jill Clayburgh, whose character watches DS) did.
The film is played for dark laughs, which is good.
Had the film been played seriously, without humor, it would have been utterly unpleasent, even impossible, to watch.
The humor made the illnesses of the Annette Benning, Brian Cox & Joseph Fiennes characters palatable.
The film is therefore hilariously funny but also sad, deeply moving, and, as we learn the ultimate fates of Burroughs & Agnes, ultimately triumphant.
Running with Scissors is an important, Oscar worthy work, though the DS fan in me found the clips great fun!

Well, couldn't find the original thread on this (how do you do that btw?) but wanted to ring in on this as I saw it yesterday. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, I was thinking black comedy like Heathers, it was more of a drama, but it was very good. The scenes where Augustin and Agnes are watching DS are hysterical though! 8) I wanted to strangle both those parents though, geez, get some Lithium already, LOL! ;) (NOT making fun of ppl on Lith, or any other mental health drugs, btw! ;) On the contray, I highly reccommend happy pills! I don't know where I'd be w/out my Valium, LOL!) ;D

I do take menal health drugs,
as I'm a bi-polar survivor.
And I said the same thing you did:
Especially to the Benning & Fiennes characters:
"takes some meds already"!!:
I found it hilarious that the Clayburgh chracter found solace in watching DS~~in my pre-meds state of years ago, the show had the same comforting effect on me!!!!

If you know the board, open it (in this case Calendar Events / Announcements '06), enter running with scissors into the search window at the top, click Search. Advanced search allows you to include other specific boards in your search.
Otherwise, select Search in the horizontal menu, then Advanced Search, enter running with scissors into the window, change the max. message age to 30 days (since we've been discussing it for about a month), click Search.

This film peaked my interest from the commercials, as many movies do, but this was one of the few that looked like it would actually be worth my money. I plan to go see it sometime soon. Thanks for the positive reviews! That just makes me want to go see it more!
Oh, and DS is in it. So that helps. lol

Completely off topic, Runs with scissors is one of the best names of a race horse i have ever heard, along with Iwannabesedated and the unforgettable Hoof Hearted ;)
