Pity I'm otherwise occupied that weekend. The Chesapeake Regional Library's had me come to FantaSci a couple of times, which is in the summer, but not MonsterFest, which would actually be more appropriate. The library is huge, though, and makes for a decent setting. Have a great time.

Michael, how far is Chesapeake from Washington, DC?
-
I may try to attend as well. Looks interesting and is only a couple hours from me.

Hi Buzz,
Chesapeake would be about 4 hours road time from the District, figure two hours from DC to Richmond, take 295 over to 64, and then keep on 64 and curve to the south towards Suffolk, Chesapeake is about 2 hours from Richmond, not on the water but just south of Va Beach.
BTW I will be touching on Dark Shadows on a talk called, "The Monster Boom" tracing the rebirth of classic horror films from the release of the Universal films to TV and through shows like The Addama Family, The Munsters and Bewitched through Night Gallery, and will touches on pop culture echoes like the Aurora models, Famous Monsters and the Hammer/AIP cycle, and well, I can't give it all away here can I? ;)

We're looking forward to it, and I'm totally honored to be on a panel with all those marvelous horror hosts!

Just a last reminder that everyone is invited tomorrow, its a free show. One or two panels have been reshuffled, and my talk on "The History of the Monster Boom" will be at 10:00 am. The Horror Hosts panel is at 1:00 pm.
You know something funny, Diane and I were looking through my High School annual for 1976, and I totally forgot they had a skit at an assembly where a student played "the Bowman Body". I have to bring in the pictures to show him. It goes to show how much a part of our growing up years, the classic Horror hosts were. Likewise, I noticed that Gold Key comics never let a cancelation of a TV show stop the comic; Dark Shadows keep publishing until2/76, Twilight Zone until 4/79 (w/one issue in 1982), and Boris Karloff, which began as "Thriller" ran unril 2/1980, almost 12 years past his death. So, Penny? Hammer out any international horror host agreements, or diplomatic initiatives, or trade sanctions, or declarations of war, or anything? How's your head?
-
Hey Magnus,
We had a hex-cellent time! MonsterFest was a blast and totally worth every minute of the ride to Virginia. The panel was great and I'm sure someone will eventually post video of the whole thing. Meanwhile, someone put up a clip on YouTube of the Bowman Body playing his ukelele -- http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bowman+body
It was great seeing Michael and Diane again! They shared some amazing photos with us. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. After me and Garou left the panel, our "curio table" was buzzing non-stop with friendly visitors. We had so much fun and made lots of new friends.
No international horror host agreements were made, but fobidden words were uttered to the four winds. Plus I got to hang out with Count Gore which was beyond cool! [hall2_smiley] Count Gore is one groovy cat and very nice too.
In other news, the next time the DS Fest is in New York I'm going to look into getting a vendor table there. It'd be fun.

Some photos from Monsterfest... [hall_grin]
The first is our own Penny Dreadful and Garou with Mr. Body.
Second is Diane and I with my boyhood hero, The Bowman Body, and also with Dr. Madblood from Tidewater, who came on TV is my early teen years. His show was also great and the movies her did greatly supplemented Bowman's.

Two more from Monsterfest...
The Horror Host panel with (l-r) Garou, Dr Sarcofiguy (sp?), the legendary Count Gore Devol, Penny Dreadful, the Bowman Body, and Dr. Madblood. I must say Garou was a big hit with everyone, both he and Bowman really got the crowd laughing. So did the Count. Penny's table was very busy after the talk and I bet she got lots of new fans. [hall_grin]
The second is Bowman playing the ukelele. There is already a clip of this on YouTube. I will post a link below too.

Cool makeup, Michael.
And PD, you look amazing as always. (Bummer, still can't see the shoes. [hall_sad])

the legendary Count Gore Devol
Well, I was too tired to go see the Count last night, and today when my brother and I went to see Captain 20, he was inside watching a horror movie w/other attendees so we left. We were bummed 'cause we thought it was a personal appearance type deal like Monster Fest where he'd be in the theater lobby signing autographs and stuff. And I even dug out my old original Captain 20 card too! [hall2_cry]
-
Suddenly my soul is gone, and I think PD is responsible! It happened when I looked at that first photo....
