I've passed through New York City more than a few times, but never had the chance to really visit. I hope to go to CBGB while I'm there...

The original location has to be vacated by October of this year. The city was supposed to help them find a new location, but what they offered wasn't satisfactory. There's actually a current news article online about it:

That was a great place to visit. I loved going down there though the area might make someone new to New York a little nervous. Well, even some New Yorkers would get nervous . .

While that club is no doubt rich in great Rock & Roll history, NYC will always have great clubs no matter what name or location they are at. I'd like to recommend a visit to the Times Square Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum
if you haven't been there.
