I'm quite baffled about what's going on in this slide show at this point.  If I remember correctly, what we've seen over the last couple of days is the result of Angie being zapped by Laura's ghost (who I thought had at least some dialogue, but apparently not).  The backdrop looks as if they're standing in Collinwood's own answer to the Crystal Palace (a fancy of Grandmamama Edith's in this version perhaps?) but I assume it is just an area of the Collinwood-on-fire set.

Is that weird thing on Angie's shoulder a tattoo the actress bears in real life, or a sign of the "cracking," or a result of Barn having attacked her?  I can't recall.

Sara Monster posted this older video of hers and I thought it was hysterical--and very appropriate to the season:

The Dracula series ratings have been going up and it is now tied for #1 across significant demographics:

The next new episode airs Jan. 3.

Meanwhile, one of the producers is in the throes of pitching a Wolfman pilot (with Universal's copyrighted Lawrence Talbot character) to the network.

Does Depp's Barnyboo makeup include a fake nose?  We've already discussed the fake fingers, fingernails, ears and hair.  Looking at the screenshot that I think is about to switch, it suddenly occurred to me that his nose had been at the very least embellished.

I really wonder how long it took every day for Depp's transformation into Barn--I am guessing a minimum of two hours.  More likely closer to three.

More Dark Shadows plot elements surfaced in episode 6.  The series seems to make reference not just to the original series, but to hoDS, 1991 DS, AND the Burton/Depp production, at times.

I have heard through the grapevine that the show is now on hiatus until sometime in Jan.

Hard to believe this was 31 years ago... December 1982:

The irony, probably lost on most, was that Joan's 1983 "Hollywood movie" was a telefilm with Parker Stevenson in which she played a bag lady. I'm still shocked every time I think about Joan's appearance in that production.  So far as I am aware it was her last time acting before the cameras.

It's too bad.  I'd personally much rather have a pristine color videotape of the 1795 episode depicting the arrival of Angelique and the Countess at Collinwood.  Now THAT would excite me.

Curiouser and curiouser.  I have the feeling we haven't heard the last of this... but then, who knows.

Let's hope we're not all saying at some point down the line, "What might have been... can never be." (quoting the late great Sandor Rakosi)

Just try to make sure it really IS the missing episode.  Due to different ways of counting and number shows, it's easy for an episode to have a number on it that does not tally with the "correct number."

If you do buy the show and want it converted to a format you can watch, feel free to PM me--I know someone who may be able to help you.

Current Talk '13 II / Re: Are the DS Festivals on hiatus?
« on: December 08, 2013, 06:03:43 AM »
Hi Penny Dreadful, I'm not sure about this past Summer's schedule, but I remember reading that the 2012 DS event in Tarrytown was a much more pared-down affair compared to the traditional Festival schedule.  I don't believe there was a vendor's room at all.  What I remember reading about was a day of tours at the Lyndhurst mansion which included the opportunity to get autographs of the celebrities who had been invited, followed by a luncheon the next day.  Originally the latter was to feature only KLS and Lara Parker I believe, but Nancy Barrett and Jerry Lacy showed up and performed a touching skit about a chance reunion between Tony and Carolyn in 2012.  (I was able to see Youtube videos of the skit.)

The 2013 event was a "Friends of Dark Shadows" sponsored affair, I believe, so it was basically run by a group of fans rather than the DCP-organized Festival committee.

I'm just writing what I can remember here in answer to your question since it has been 3 days and nobody who might be more knowledgeable has bothered to respond.

Hoping to catch up with some of your recent shows over the winter!

Best,  G.

Current Talk '13 II / A NoDS forerunner?
« on: December 06, 2013, 04:22:22 AM »
I've been catching up with some episodes of the old chestnut ONE STEP BEYOND, a supernatural-themed series that aired in the late 50s and early 60s.  I just watched an episode entitled "The Captain's Guests" and there were a number of elements in the story that made me think of the NoDS screenplay:

I've always thought that Sam Hall was most likely inspired by the Oliver Onions story, "The Beckoning Fair One," which had been dramatized in the late 1960s Hammer studios series JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS, but this episode makes me wonder...

Current Talk '24 I / Re: Depp/Burton DARK SHADOWS Is In Release!!

I may be wrong, but from what I have observed, there is a similar factor at work with the latest Trek film as with the Burton/Depp Shadows opus.  There is a growing cabal of people out to "get" JJ Abrams just as there are those determined to hoist Burton and Depp upon their own petard.  So, some of the expressed displeasure may have nothing to do with what was actually shown or done, but part of a continuing personal vendetta against the director.

I just learned of this site's existence thanks to an article by Jeff Thompson a friend shared with me.  There are lots of goodies; one that struck me is a fan's edit of an opening credits sequence for the storyline focused around Julia's introduction, but done with the music and visuals of the 1991 series opening, transposed into black and white:

http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com/2013/12/02/dark-shadows-julia-hoffmans-arrival-title-sequence/

There's also a clip from an interview Helena Bonham Carter did about her work as Julia that was new to me--and sections dedicated to the NBC DRACULA series, SLEEPY HOLLOW, and a catch-all called SPAWN OF DARK SHADOWS.

Worth checking out.

I totally missed Julia's dialogue about David's beliefs about Laura, beyond that he was more or less obsessed with her (which seems completely understandable given she was his Mother and she was dead), and I also missed the fact that Barnabas and Vicki took seriously David's stories about Laura.  In fact , I don't even really Laura being mentioned except very briefly in the scenes of Vicki's arrival.

But then, I only ever saw it once... A LOT MORE was said and done in the final 10 minutes than I realized... judging from the recent images and quotes.

Carolyn turning out to be a werewolf somehow seems to fit the kooky/ooky Addams/Munsters tone of the publicity and at least some of the material... I didn't really react one way or the other.  It seemed to be presented in a very throwaway fashion.
