I've had a lovely birthday. As Pansity said our son
has been home on leave and brought his fiance.
And our daughter and her husband were with us too.

I would think it would depend on what point in the series.
At times Julia and Angelique are on the same side.
So if Angelique were injured or ill I would think Julia
would try to help her.

When you consider that much of DS was borrowed from other sources- books and
movies, I don't think this book has gone too far. At least from what I read about it.

1897 is one of my favorite DS storylines. This is because so much is happening.
So many plots and sub plots, interesting characters, drama with a touch of whimsy.
As to your question, I do not think you have to be a Q fan to enjoy 1897.
It's very much an ensemble piece.
