Calendar Events / Announcements '13 II / Jonathan Frid website
« on: August 08, 2013, 02:25:58 PM »
I established and ran the original JonathanFrid.com site in 1998 for a few years and subsequent assistants in Canada became the webmaster.  The site was partially moved over to JonathanFrid.ca after JF's death but is not expected to be very active.  Jonathan's own contributions to that site remain there.  With the family's permission and encouragement, I am in the process of setting up a new website JonathanFrid.net that will link to the old one and contain archives and information about Jonathan for new and old fans alike.  The site is expected to be up by the end of August.  Hope you visit!

Calendar Events / Announcements '13 II / New Book on Jonathan Frid
« on: August 08, 2013, 02:21:57 PM »
Helen Samaras and I are in the end phase of putting together a book called REMEMBERING JONATHAN FRID which will be published sometime in the fall.  This book will feature articles written by long time DS fans who worked with Jonathan "behind the scenes" at festivals for decades, former assistants, theater colleagues, family and friends many of whom have not written about Jonathan in the past for a publication.  The book will be over 100 pages, include rare black and white photos from personal archives, and promises to be a most unique book.  Helen and I will be writing articles for this book as well.

Portions of the proceeds will go to the John H. Frid Fund/Hamilton Community Foundation, which received the bulk of Jonathan's estate.

You can secure your copy now by sending a check or money order for $30.00 (includes shipping) to Helen Samaras at 541 Birch Street, West Hempstead, NY 11552 or via paypal skippy1253@aol.com.  If you have any questions, you can email me nckersey@gmail.com.  Thanks!

Helen Samaras and I are in the process of putting together a book entitled REMEMBERING JONATHAN FRID, a collection of articles written by those who have worked and/or known Jonathan.  Many of these articles will be written by individuals not previously heard from in DS fandom including members of Jonathan's family, previous assistants dating back to the days of Dark Shadows, and theater colleagues.  Several DS fans who worked extensively with Jonathan at the festivals for decades will also be contributing.  This book is a look at who Jonathan was as a person and will contain many stories and observations about him, much as he enjoyed sharing stories and observations about others.  This isn't meant to be a book about a saint - contributors will be writing about Jonathan's personality, life and work thus providing a 3D view of the man.

The book will be published in the Fall, 2013 and the cost $30.00 including shipping.  It is expected to be at least 100 pages and contain black and white photographs, several never-before-published photos as well.

It will be available for sale online at that point.  We are now taking PRE-ORDERS for this book at the special price of $20.00 until July 5th.  You can send your $20.00 payment to Helen Samaras at skippy1253@aol.com or send a check and money order to her at:  541 Birch Street, West Hempstead, NY 11552.  Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the John H. Frid Fund/Hamilton Community Foundation in Canada.

Please message me if you have any questions or email me at nckersey@gmail.com.  Thanks!

My friend, Helen Samaras, had the idea of putting together a book called "Remembering Jonathan Frid," a compilation of memories and stories written by fans, family, co-workers who knew Jonathan over the years.  I will also be writing an article.   I will assisting in putting this book together.  We expect to publish it sometime in the spring.  This book will be unique as there will be many, personal and previously-unpublished photos in it.  Some of the proceeds will go to the Hamilton Community Foundation/John H. Frid Fund in Canada.

The book will be available via Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other venues.  I will post developments and availability.

Here is a clip from a 1990 performance in Tarrytown, New York of Jonathan performing "The Ghost" in the Old Dutch Church for a fundraiser.

I uploaded this on youtube while selling DVDs.  I don't have those DVDs anymore though they are turning up on ebay.

The Frid family and friends have moved the Jonathan Frid website to another server which is jonathanfrid.ca.

The one-man show DVDs that Jonathan had for sale on the website are no longer available by mail (at least for the moment).  If you are looking to purchase any of the DVDs he had for sale on the website, there will be a vendor table at the DS Weekend at Lyndhurst selling those DVDs.  A few will have been autographed by JF but most are not.

I just found out that Rainingwolf (Ginger Chapman) died in her sleep over the weekend.   Her son posted the news of her passing on her Facebook page Saturday afternoon.

Jonathan taped a brief video for fans and uploaded it onto his website today.  He talks about how much he enjoyed the Brooklyn Festival, selling his house and moving into a condo and the fact he can't drive anymore.  He talks about the Depp movie and how much he is looking forward to seeing it next year.     http://www.jonathanfrid.com

He has some fun story audio recording samples he's done.

The yahoo list about Jonathan Frid is expanding to having fan fiction about Barnabas or Bramwell posted on the list.  We are looking for fan fic with either one of these characters as the central character and the rating for the fan fic is no more than PG-13.

If you are interested, please subscribe to the group or if you are already a member, please consider sharing your talents with us.  If you have never written fan fiction before, that's fine too.  The group is friendly, supportive and welcomes new people and novice writers.  There's no better way to learn about writing than to start doing it and getting feedback!

The list can get quite active at times so if you subscribe, you also have the option of reading only from the web or getting a daily digest.

Shadowgram just sent out an email that Mr DiCenzo has died at the age of 70.  I'm having trouble cutting and posting SG here so hopefully someone else can do that for me.

Jonathan wrote some more on Ron Sproat and his impact on the character development of Barnabas.  He also talks about being called into the studio to meet with the writers for his input on how the character should be developed.
