OT--Survey
« on: April 14, 2003, 09:03:34 PM »
Hi everybody,

In my sociology class, we were asked to give a survey to 4-5 people on their jobs.  We were given a set of questions to ask, and the answers will be put into paragraph form for a report to submit after we get back from break.  I don't know really any people with jobs that could be considered a career, and we can't ask our "peers" because they don't have those kind of jobs.  I'm posting it here because this is a mass forum, and I was hoping some of you could answer my questions.

1.  What do you do for a living?
2.  How many years have you been doing this?
3.  Are you satisfied with salary and benefits?
4.  Do you like or dislike your co-workers?
5.  Do you look forward to going to your job?
6.  Why did you choose this career?
7.  What do you like most and least about your job?

Any and all answers would be appreciated.  If you don't want to post it here, could you put it in an IM to me?  Thanks.

I would ask my dad but I don't want to get his whole life story.  [sleep]  [7385]

Hope this isn't too late to help you out LAFB!

1. Paralegal.
2. Ten years in August.
3. Can't really complain, benefits are esp. good
4. Work with 20 people, most of them are great - 2 or
    3 are not so great.
5. Most days yes.
6. Because I was good at legal stuff and didn't want the
    long hours a lawyer has.
7. Like: Helping people in difficult situations.
Dislike: Dealing with difficult/unfair situations that I
    can't do anything to improve.

Good luck with your report!

1.  Union Business Agent, Actors' Equity Association.
2.  7 years.
3.  Yes, very satisfied.
4.  Like all co-workers.
5.  98% of the time, yes (there are days when I just want to say to hell with everything and stay home--LOL).
6.  Security, opportunity to "make a difference" and give something back to all the actors I've known, loved and worked with.
7.  Most:  Independence, integrity, "doing the right thing," co-workers.  Least:  dealing with morons and stupid managers on the other side (i.e., company management employing my actors), stress.

Hope this helps.

Brian

1.  Bookkeeper/Business Manager
2.  Have own business for seven years and have practiced bookkeeping for 23-24 years.
3.  Yes, I give myself a raise when I want one.  The benefits are no good but I get my hubby's.
4.  I like my clients for the most part.
5.  Yes.
6.  I needed to eat.  I also like organizing numbers.  Don't ask me why.
7.  I like helping people out of their financial crisis' the best.  I dislike the folks that don't understand their financial situation and are in denial.  They are the most difficult ones to work with.

1.  What do you do for a living?
Environmental Protection Specialist
2.  How many years have you been doing this?
13 1/2 years
3.  Are you satisfied with salary and benefits?
yes except New York locality is less than San Franicsco, that seems odd to me?
4.  Do you like or dislike your co-workers?
In San Fran:  Like-folks are fun, friendly and have a gleam of the cause in their eyes.  Don't like--folks are way too soft and easily bruised.  In New York:  We're in New York, some folks seem quite nice.  Dislike-- I've seen some. . .uh Machiavellian moves?
5.  Do you look forward to going to your job?
At times, depending upon the current project
6.  Why did you choose this career?
I wanted to give back, you know, that tired old sentiment but it's true and the  stability in these difficult economic times is wonderful.
7.  What do you like most and least about your job?
I like helping to protect the environment but I hate how environmentalist have to have 20 scientists to industry's 1 to prove anything.

A couple of weeks ago after we got back from break, we put our replies together and teamed up with a partner to group our replies into different professions--specialists, health care, etc.  My teacher liked that I had more than the minimum replies.  We only had to have three or four but I used the seven that I got.
So, once again, thanks for the help.   [grinb]
