Barnabas saves the kids, inexplicably both home from school so that Laura can be wrapped up. He could have broken through the door, I think, but that also might have raised questions. Edward asks Barnabas The Question, who puts him off for now, but only for now. This moment will have huge consequences.
Another big moment for this episode... a desperate Quentin goes along with it, stupidly, when Evan, pressed for a solution to Quentin's werewolfism, suggests summoning Satan. I can't believe that this idea was the result of concerned and inspired creative thought on Evan's part, an honest effort to help. If it had been a good idea, Evan would have come out with it the second Q asked him for help. It wouldn't have taken him any time to come up with it. Devil summoning can't be a new idea to Evan. I think Evan saw a chance to push Q into the worst mistake of his life, selling his soul, because (A) it would get Q off Evan's back, and (B) it would delight and amuse Evan to summon Satan himself, successfully, as long as the Devil's business wasn't with him personally, and his risk was minimal.
I love Quentin getting drunk to meet the Devil and sell his soul, thinking it's a good idea. It does add weight to the whole scene, too. This is the most desperate act ever, perhaps, and there just isn't any good way to do it. Then the Devil seems to appear, Q passes out on the spot, leaving Evan on the spot to face him alone!
Too bad it's very clear to the audience who it really is.....
