Dear Cousins...I wanted to post this petition and ask that you guys to sign it and stand with Madonna who is calling for the release of two men who are in a committed relationship who happen to live in the country of Malawi a place where she directs the majority of her charity work by building schools for orphans. They have been imprisoned for being gay and sentenced to 14 years hard labor in jail! Madonna is a powerful woman and she along with the President have called for their release! What can it hurt to take 15 seconds of your time?? I also included an article from New York Daily News that details the situation. At times things may seem unfair in this country. However, I am very proud and thankful to live in The United States of America. I hope it was okay to post this as this issue is very close to my heart.
Madonna released the following statement in response to a Malawi court's decisions to jail two men for 14 years for the "crime" of homosexuality. Read the statement, then add your name in support of equal rights.I am shocked and saddened by the decision made this week by the Malawian court, which sentenced two innocent men to prison.
As a matter of principle, I believe in equal rights for all people, no matter what their gender, race, color, religion, or sexual orientation.This week, Malawi took a giant step backward. The world is filled with pain and suffering; therefore, we must support our basic human right to love and be loved.
I call upon the progressive men and women of Malawi—and around the world—to challenge this decision in the name of human dignity and equal rights for all.
