Current Talk '24 I / Re: Depp/Burton DARK SHADOWS Is In Release!!
« on: May 12, 2012, 04:08:13 AM »
I went to a matinee showing of Dark Shadows today and to my delight pleasantly surprised that the film wasn't a bad comedic parody of the original series but a well written story in it's own right with some interesting twists.  The cameos left a little to be desired but other than that, Kudos to Depp/ Burton and the whole cast !

Very sad to hear of Jonathan Frid's Passing.  The great Shakespearean actor played a huge part in creating Barnabas Collins, An immortal character so dear to our hearts.   I'm glad he was able to appear in Johnny Depp's updated Movie version of a Supernatural Soap Opera Classic.    RIP

Another Link about the play....refers to David Selby not by his name  but as  "an actor portraying President Lincoln

With the exception of the grey hair, Mitch looks pretty much the same.

Poor Willie ,    Later he would be forced to dig up newly buried human bodies...I hope Barnabas provided overtime and a good medical plan for his multi tasking servant .    [hall2_sad]

Roger would endorse any candidate promising to stop taxing liquor.  I think Uncle Quentin would agree.   [hall2_wink]

How could anyone think the actress in that commercial is Kathryn Lee Scott  ?   That's beyond wishful thinking  [hall2_rolleyes]

It was great to see Jonathan at Saturday's  Festival  ....  He was very spry both mentallly and physically  :) .   After reading  his message posted on his website ,  I can honestly say that Mr. Frid  has always been gracious to his fans at past DS Festivals.

I thought Amanda was much prettier than Beth.  Just watch a scene from 1897 when Quentin and Amanda gaze into each other's eyes before a passionate kiss.. She brought out a more tender side of the Q man who always had his way with the beautiful women  the lucky guy.  [hall2_cool]

I had the pleasure to see her at the DS Festival in August  and also this October at a book signing at  Barnes &  Noble  Lincoln Center  in NYC .  Very friendly  toward the fans and took the time to sign autographs for a few hours and read excerpts from her autobiography in addition to performing.  She has truly discovered the formula for not aging or has a painting hidden  [hall2_wink]

Donna is scheduled to sign copies of her book at the Barnes and Nobles in Lincoln Center  NYC in October.

Great Pics !     I attended the Festival on Sunday  and enjoyed meeting the actors and watching the performances of the very first and last Episodes of DS.   I think Jerry Lacey is a fine actor but wished that Jonathan could have attended to recreate the charecter of Bramwell .   All the actors look so good for their age, must be something in the Collinsport water ;)

In the present time, I would choose Vicky because unlike Maggie , Barnabas really fell in love with her and couldn't wait to court her as a human instead of making her a vampire like himself.    Julia became more of a dear friend or a sister to him.   Barnabas wouldn't have approved of one of Mrs Johnson's famous boiled dinners so that wouldn't have worked out.   ;)
