I heard this show is based on The Crucible.  That can't be true...  I just listened to The Crucible the play.

it is "based" on 'The Crucible' in the same way that DS "based" it's witchcraft trial storylines on it...

that is very, very loosely. it's more an "inspired by" than any sort of literal retelling. which is certainly how DS approached multiple sources of classic literature.
