I wanna say that the opening voice-over was a little corny but I don't remember it because this episode blew me away. It's my second favorite to date. It was exciting and engrossing. I don't think Carolyn is in love with Joe. Since last episode I've been wondering what Joe wanted to talk about. I figured it was Burke. I didn't remember it was about the promotion. Poor Joe, Carolyn cut him down at the knees twice. Third time's the charm as we'll learn in time. Joan has one of her better days if I remember correctly. She had nothing but great scenes to act today. I was on the edge of my seat. Especially when Joe told Liz about Burke Devlin. Now that we know she knows we want to know. Obviously Burke wants to know as well.

Burke can be rather charming. Almost likeable. Is it an act? Probably so. Roger is back to his panicky self. The unholy pact between him and Sam is quite apparent now and is in danger of unraveling. It is also quite evident now that they did Burke some serious wrong. I find Sam pathetically funny. I hysterically hang on his every word. Looks like Burke is picturing himself as master of Collinwood. I'm finding it hard reading Maggie. Probably just a combination of soap opera acting and poor directing. Well, it's not hard to tell when someone is going to break a glass in their bare hand.
It's strange that Burke has no angst against Sam. How could he not know Sam's role in his incarceration? Maybe it is explained and I have forgotten.

Another great opening voiceover. Having started watching during the Petofi period, seeing sets such as the kitchen (or is it more a ? ) and the basement is still a thrill for me. The storage room appears to have some great significance. We get a sense of the better/softer side of Liz in this episode. Her talk with David and Mathew's Liz speech make her out to be a good person with a bad secret or two. How can we not think Vicki is one of them. Of course she keeps denying it. And quite well to Vicki's face. Vicki and Carolyn have a conversation without Carolyn blowing up, lol. Apparently David & Roger hate each other. Come to think of it, no one likes Roger but Carolyn. What surprises me more than Mathew being unaware of Vicki's presence at Collinwood is that Vicki knows how to drive! Orphanage/NYC? Not likely.

I have two questions. Is David doing the widows' bidding or is he threatened by Victoria because he wants his mother back? The mom thing is totally plausible. But knowing what we know now, 50 years later,  so is the widows angle. And if the widows are talking to David is it because they know Vicki's fate? And do they care because she really is a Collins?  MB mentioned on the games board something regarding Paul Stoddard as a candidate for being Vicki's father. Our first hint of that is here in this episode as Carolyn makes the suggestion the Paul Left 18 years ago which coincidentally is when the $50 payments from Maine started arriving at the foundling home.

I like to amuse myself by pretending it is Roger that Vicki heard crying at two in the morning.

MB, it is correct to state that this is our first time seeing Vicki sleeveless in real time. But Vicki is wearing the same dress in her foundling home flashback in the diner in episode one.

Love the outdoor footage, especially the long shot of Vicki on Widows Hill.

You summed it up nicely.
The opening voice-over is one of my faves. And I guess since Roger's been away, Carolyn's somewhat creepy obsession with him is okay. A lot of great  dialogue and scenery chewing. The drama is high. Edmonds is having a field day. We get a good look at Roger and Liz's relationship. They don't appear to respect each other much. I'm perplexed about Liz. I can't tell if she believes what she is saying or if she's an optimist, or if she terribly misjudges every situation. She puts up a good front but gives in a lot and is usually wrong about stuff. Not the image of Liz I've built up in my head. It's only episode 4 tho. We learn Roger's life hasn't been a picnic and no one likes his wife. David still hasn't been complimented and I'm pretty much expecting satan when we meet him. Vicki's getting fed up. We can't blame her. Alexandra is playing the part well. The whole household is in turmoil. Everyone has an adversary.
Crying in the night. I'm not thinking Liz, or Ghost, I'm thinking Clarice Blackburn, lol. Satan shows up and he is David. As stated above, Victoria's had a very rough day.

I've never noticed before but this cover foto looks like it was taken during my fave Barn photo shoot at the Spratt Mansion!

I'll have to check it out! I think I may have seen it or parts of it at a friend's or maybe a fest. Was Louis Edmonds in it? He's who I'm seeing in my mind, with pork chop sideburns.

Carolyn meets Vicki. I'm trying to decide if Carolyn is immature or bi-polar? Cute dialogue between the two. It's odd to me that Carolyn's never heard of Burke Devlin. It wouldn't be odd to learn that she'd been sheltered from the goings-on regarding the accident and trial. But unless it all happened over summer vacation surely school would have been abuzz with the gossip or at least whispers and finger pointing. Maggie certainly was aware it.
We meet Bill Malloy. I've never cared for this character. Good actor though. Joe gets to formally meet Burke and Burke sets his plan to destroy the Collins clan into action. I'd like to know who it was that called Burke to warn him that Malloy was on his way. I'm wondering if I'm watching edited episodes. Joe is coming across as a decent guy so far.
There's a word for people like Roger Collins but I can't seem to come up with it. He's certainly unlikable and untrustworthy. And I can't decide if Maggie doesn't like him or if she is just suspicious of him. I don't know if it's the acting or if the writing is to blame. Maybe it's me.
As stated above we now know Maggie's father figures into this mess between Burke and the Collins'. And he doesn't seem to fit into the good side of things.
I wonder at this point if we are supposed to wonder if it's a ghost or know that it's David. Carolyn makes it clear it's David at episode's end.

I liked the article very much. Thanks, MB!

I have to wonder why Vicki's presence is such a threat to Roger. If he'd broken the glass in anger that would have been easier to swallow. But I detected fear.

Excellent comments above...my thoughts exactly. Lol, MB, I smiled when Liz mentioned and then brought in tea. I was eager to mention that tea had been established as the house beverage in this episode though we see Roger's drink of choice is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
We meet Carolyn and Joe. Carolyn, unlikable as first soon earns our sympathy, poor little rich girl. Joe gets our sympathy from the get-go. The boy next door and the fire eater. The writing's on the wall there. Burke laughingly gets established as a real tough guy who needs but one glance to gain control over a bar fight. With powers like that and the money to back them up there's little doubt he'll be able to take down the mighty Collins family.
Collinwood has 40 rooms and no help to speak of. I hope Vicki likes housework. Vicki gets Liz's old room. I guess they don't make mattresses like they used to. It appears the drawing room looks out over the sea. I liked how they used Vicki looking out the window to segue into the opening title. Seeing Vicki on Widows Hill from below with Roger approaching is awesome. Vicki meets Roger. Great scene. Poor Liz obviously has her own demons.
