Hateful villain indeed, DarkLady, OMGoodness!!! How fabulous is Trask portrayed as compared to Tony Peterson? Love the makeup job too. I didn't remember any of the violence of this episode. Nor the intensity. It was chuck full of substance, nary a shred of fluff nor filler from start to finish. A bit difficult to watch at times for me because of the persecution and rough treatment of Vicki. Then I starting thinking about the actual witch trials of the 1600s and started getting sick to my stomach. Barn to the rescue - well, almost, why he wasn't present for Vicki's questioning or at least standing guard outside her door to make sure things didn't get out of hand seemed a bit odd to me but of course Trask would have never been able to get her out of the house if Barn had been involved. I wish Vicki had been able to slap Natalie & Abigail, but I'm happy she at least got Trask. AM had some great scenes and played them to the hilt. As did Lacy. Blackburn had the scenes but fell short of a stellar performance. I am not bowled over by her Abigail. She hasn't quite got there yet, IMO. I liked Crothers' opening scene & his scene with Moltke but like Blackburn, he not a scene stealer. The closing scene was pretty damn good. I like how the music kept building. And I absolutely love how Lacy looks up when he says The Lord, lol. The men seem to think Trask is a crackpot and the women are followers. Natalie is having reservations about Trask's methods but I was not moved. Definitely not a boring episode. I would have had Abigail prick her finger during her needlepointing though.

Barn hasn't really had all that much interaction with Vicki, now that I think about it.

Interesting conversation between Josette & Andre. Not very well acted but interestingly written with Andre being somewhat comical and at times blunt -- all for Angelique's sake, to put her, once again, in panic mode and APU having her tempt the hand of fate. It makes sense to me that Josette would try to stop the duel between Barn & Jeremiah and have only her father to plead her case to Barn.

Barnabas is the most fascinating character on the show right now, IMO, with all he is dealing with and as a different man than he was before the betrayal. I find it kind of interesting that Barn would have the conversation with Ange, take the amulet, thank her, etc. But he is not the Barn he once was, so, there you are. Andre tries to plead Josette's case to Barn but to no avail and no surprise.

Josette's having a bad day. She can't convince her husband not to duel Barn. Their scene was interesting as DarkLady noted. Josette isn't as stupid as I thought I remembered.

Barn & Jeremiah: How weird a situation that would be in real life. I can't imagine being in it today, even without the violent aspect. The scene was pretty well written, very believable considering the circumstances.

I don't understand what Jeremiah was doing when he got shot? Was he praying? Did he purposely die so Barnabas' could live? That whole scene was pretty odd to me. Bad camera work or am I missing something?

Jeremiah: "You must believe that in all these years I never lied to you until this. And that lie made me a stranger - even to myself." Barn: "Then I will fight a stranger and not the man you were." I love this exchange, especially Barn's line.

My other favorite exchange was between Josette & Barn after Jeremiah falls.
Barn: "He will die without help." Josette: "And you will have killed him." Josette goes hardcore and doesn't cut Barn any slack. You go girl. Great stuff. Josette gets my vote for most interesting character for this episode.

I thought the acting in this episode was mostly pretty weak. I don't think Josette fainted, I think she fell back from the weight of all that hair, the poor dear.

Yeah, Magnus, I have to wonder how differently Barnabas might have reacted had it been Phyllis Wick that was accused of witchcraft having just arrived as governess, and not under suspicious circumstances. Or if Phyllis had died in the carriage accident and there was no scapegoat to accuse of witchcraft at all. I lean toward the notion that Barn would have been sympathetic to anyone in the scapegoat position and of course to Ben regardless. I really don't have any trouble understanding Barn's lack of sympathy in 1967 -- all the time in the box, etc.

Yes, Marie is. I've told this before; At my very first fest, she & M. Stroka left the autograph table and signed autographs and talked to the fans starting from the back of the never-ending line. It was a wonderfully personal and climatic experience as they slowly but surely got closer and closer. Wow. They were so down to earth and kind. It made standing in that long line an event in itself. I thought that was so gracious and considerate and kewl. It turned an otherwise mostly uneventful first fest experience into a wonderful feel-good memory. KLS also made my day at that first fest. I don't even remember the rest of it except the dealer's room...sorry to digress.
