I voted Middle of the Line, as I think Roger would probably not vote in this election at all. He strikes me as being a Democrat who's too liberal to vote for McCain but not liberal enough to vote for Obama.

There was no option in the poll of a conservative Republican who wasn't going to vote at all because McCain was not his kind of guy.   There was a lot of that in this election.

I tend to assume rich people are Republicans, but New England is a region I don't understand, where those expectations get confounded, I think.

Based on what I've seen from comparing various election results, the New England states are primarily Democrat-voting states.

True, but the majority of the population isn't rich.

Sarah Palin, because she is conservative and she is Gal that can do it all. McCain would compromise on taxes. Sarah wouldn't have given up, she even fought her own party.

yeah, I see Roger as a closet conservative, secretly sneering down his nose at the local-yokel liberals he finds himself surrounded by  [sssh]

Maybe it's just me, but I'd say there was nothing closeted about Roger's conservatism.  [hall2_wink]

I'm going with middle of the road, bear in mind that middle of the road today is very different from middle of the road back then...

Nope, I was going to say that too, without the play on words...

certainly not at home, but I imagine he'd keep his opinions a little closer to the vest when he was with local area business and political contacts  [disguise]

Roger rarely filtered his real opinions and thoughts when he was in public - as almost anyone who was unfortunate enough to witness his behavior would attest.  [hall2_undecided]  So, even if he tried to hide his real self from someone, it's not like those real views could ever be kept a secret for long. In fact, Roger's public behavior was often so outrageous that I can easily see him being the subject of gossip throughout all of Collinsport, the surrounding areas, and who knows how many other states.  [hall2_wink]  The question "Can you believe what Roger Collins said about/to...?!" surely started off many a conversation regardless of the strata of society.  [hall2_grin]

ok, you've convinced me [hall2_grin]

After all this time I still haven't seen all of DS, so I imagine y'all know a little better than I do. I'd hope that Roger would be a little more shrewd in his public dealings, but he is a bit of a hothead I guess  [hall2_shocked]

Eh. I think part of his behavior is because he very much sees himself as a Collins from Collinsport. He behaves the way he does because he thinks he's entitled.  The locals might despise him, but they probably would be loathe to do it to his face.
