Trivia Question
« on: March 03, 2003, 06:17:39 AM »
Greetings!

Here's a little trivia question to test your DS knowledge:

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN DS AND THE SOUND OF MUSIC (film version)?

Regards,

John

Hmm....Since they never yodeled on DS (and more's the pity), I believe the common thread would involve the puppets and the infamous bat on a string. Same puppeteer?

An E-Z one for a sunday nite!!

Robert Wise directed TSOM, and also directed 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' [in the top 5 movies of all time IMHO] ---- TDTESS had Frances Bavier in it, who played Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith show, starring Andy Griffith [hence the name of the show]  Andy G went on to play Matlock.  An episode of Matlock featured TLATKLS, who played the Beautiful Maggie Evans, among others, on Dark Shadows.

{Ringo modestly takes a bow} ;)

A check on IMDB confirms Cris's answer!  Puppeteer Bil Baird piloted the bat on DS!  Is the answer you were looking for John?

Always, Minja  ;)

And don't forget the other one!  Angela Cartwright played one of the Von Trapp children, who starred in Lost In Space, which had Dennis Patrick playing the Golden Man in the second season (who saved Marta Kristen from an alien mine field, the mines consisting of under-inflated beach balls because no expense was spared on special F-X by Irwin Allen) who played Jason Maguire on Dark Shadows.

Yes, the answer I was looking for was Bill Baird, the puppeteer who worked on both DS and TSOM.

Still, the other answers were quite interesting, and has me wondering if there are even more connections to be made.

Regards,

John

If we were talking about the Broadway version rather than the film version, then I could toss in a story David Selby once told Merv Griffin. Seems that the first time David Selby hopped a train to New York from West Virginia he saw Mary Martin in The Sound of Music. He told Merv that he cried (probably because of how much he paid for the tickets).

Meanwhile, I watch the film and just remark on how hot Christopher Plummer looks. Edelweiss, indeed!

LOL.
Well, if there HAD been yodelling, I'm quite sure David would have been the best yodeler.

(Just thought I'd throw that in).   ;D

If he'd played Beauregard in Auntie Mame, a play based on the book of the same name, instead of the musical adaptation Mame, we would've been able to find out. Beauregard yodels in his death scene.  :D
