The explosion of men's facial hair in that same period was also striking. Muttonchops were just the tip of the iceberg and, when it came to real facial hair, about the only example DS allowed. Who knows why? But it seemed like mustaches and more were sported by every other male adult in the late '60s and '70s. (Though one thing I never understood was why such mustaches got the nickname, The Porn Stache. Sure, there were plenty of male porn stars who sported mustaches (not that back then I had anything but anecdotal photographic knowledge of that ), but so did many "mainstream" actors, Burt Reynolds being perhaps the most visible example. Yet, I don't ever recall Reynold's mustache being referred to as a Porn Stache. But I'm sure there must be some really great story behind how the nickname came to be. It's even still in use to this day...)
