Thanks, Darren - but what disappointing news. :(  :-  On the up side, though, at least they didn't say that they never have any intention of restoring NoDS and only plan to release the VHS print on DVD. So, even if it's only small, there IS still some hope...

This is disappointing news, although I can understand Warners' point of view.  After all, when considering the entire continuum of cinema, HODS and NODS are not especially significant or important films.

The real frustration comes from Warners' unwillingness to license their titles to other companies.  I wouldn't be surprised if a company such as Anchor Bay were willing to license the titles and sponsor the restoration of NODS.  Perhaps Warners will one day be willing to loosen their grip on what they consider their less-important titles, thereby making a nice little licensing fee while satisfying DS fans everywhere.

Regards,

John

But Darren...wasn't I in that 'chat' thing with Warners and I asked about NoDS? (I also asked about "Prince & Pauper", as you suggested, and they said yes to both...'soonish'....)
Should WE (hopefully, ALL posters on this board
a) write actual letters
b) perhaps go to a web site and give Warner execs links to the VERY NUMEROUS DS web sites
c) give them a TV guide, explaining DS is on for 2 eps per DAY (obviously, TPTB @ Sci-Fi know there's an audience).

Patti.

The pitch was done immediately after forum chat. (Thanks for attending by the way.)

At this stage, writing letters, emails or petitions wouldn't help at all.  It was clear in their communications that Warners is aware of the 'enthusiastic fan following the show and films have' but doesn't feel it's sizeable enough to warrant focusing their immediate or special attention on the films.

We could write 10 letters a day but all it would do would annoy them and fill up their garbage cans.

However, if they hope to do it, in say 5 years, that does provide more time to try to locate the uncut version and/or try to persuade them to do the restoration when they do finally get around to it.

Josette,

You mean the uncut version of HODS, right?

Darren,

I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work and time you've invested in getting the DS movies restored & released again.

And to Warners:

Darren, I guess so!  I read these items about trying to find the missing footage and restorations, etc., but I don't necessarily remember exactly which items are which.  I just hope that eventually both can be restored to what they should be, and if they ever do it, with the additional time, perhaps it's more likely that they'll do it correctly instead of just releasing what we have now.

[bawling2] [bawling2] i'm so sad to hear this about the movie restoration.  it's just a crying shame.  my main concern is with NODS and the voice-over aspect.

it would be a shame if when they finally decided to go for it that the actor's have all passed away or in some way become incapacited from being able to work on the project.

perish the thought.

Hi Josette,

The Cliff's notes version is- all the footage from NODS has been recovered but is missing sections of audio track.

The longer international version of HODS is still lost at this point...

very sorry to hear this. I really wanted to see the uncut NODS as I bet it would be a terrific film.

Perhaps DVD releases in the future could feature the footage you found.

Might Curtis be able to buy back the rights to the films, or remake them, using the original shooting scripts?

My guess would be that the DVD release of NODS would feature the standard theatrical version with "bonus footage" tacked on at the end, as per usual with DVD's. The same would possibly apply to HODS if they found any additional footage to tack on.

This is really unfortunate news...I had a feeling Time Warner would be like this which is why I bought 2 copies of each VHS tape from Amazon and taped them from tv as well... seems the only DVD's of these movies I might ever own will be if I get a DVD recorder... I applaud the efforts of Darren and all those who tried to get the restoration done...
