Hello Mr. Frid. I haven't posted here for over a year and I am an infrequent visitor to your site but I've been a fan of DS since I was a kid running home to see it every day. I own and moderate many DS groups on yahoo. I haven't ever posted to your website either but I did want to take the opportunity to thank you for your portrayal of Barnabas. It looks like today April 18 is the 41st anniversary of your first appearance on the show. DS is my favorite show of all time. Your friend Nancy Kersey is a good friend of mine.

This is the episode in which I believe Willie began to have feelings for Maggie. When he had to bring her back from the mausoleum and tried to comfort her while at the same time telling her that she had to cooperate with Barnabas, you could see the tenderness in his eyes. His case was hopeless of course, but that doesn't mean his heart did not go out to her. I feel so sorry for them, Willie because of his hopeless love, Maggie because of being held in captivity and being expected to give up her identity, and Sam because he has to be fearing more and more that he'll never see Maggie again.

I always liked Amanda.  I can never figure out what it is about her that turns people off.

Ok let me explain my own personal feelings here. The woman was a consummate whiner. Her first line was "Why did I have to wait downstairs for five minutes?" Good grief it was ONLY five minutes! Second she wears way too much makeup. Third, four men were after her, and one of them considered her the perfect woman. Why pray tell, does the "perfect woman" need so much makeup? Her fake eyelashes were an inch long! Fourth, Quentin fell for her instead of not only Beth, but every other woman he'd ever been with. What was it about her? She was nothing but a plastic barbie doll.

Quote
As far as acting, the character that always turned me off was Beth.  She had a habit of speaking her lines in a monotone.  Amanda wasn't award winning material, but she was better than that.

I will concur on this one, though I like Beth. She could be a whiner herself. But her loyalty and love for Quentin win me over to her much more than that flake Amanda Harris. I believe Quentin had sincere feelings for her but it never seemed to actually amount to love. Her time with him was during his still immature stage when he couldn't appreciate her as much as he should have.

Quote
The thing I didn't like was her falling in love with Quentin, I mean, good grief, every woman who came within 50 feet of the guy was kissing him within 60 seconds of meeting him.

And if I met him I'd be trying for that same honor...wow is he sexy or what?

I thought she played a pretty interesting part in the story line up until then, but once she fell for Q she was just another lovestruck goof.  I'm just starting on the Leviathan story right now and I really like her character in that as well, she's one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dull plot.

While she was more bearable as Olivia, I liked her hair and her makeup wasn't as bad, she was still a whiner and truth be told I was very very very happy when
she fell off that bridge into oblivion!!
The only dear Amanda is a dead Amanda. Even at that, that she is dead is dear, and she still isn't.

Heh heh heh. I like your avatar, I have 6 cats of my own.

I will agree that I liked how Amanda pegged Trask right away, "He's disgusting!" Other than that I can't think of much positive to say about her.

Sam was very polite to Willie in this episode, the last time they'd seen each other Sam was rude and rough on him. I thought it was for a good reason though, since Willie had asked him those personal questions that time at the Blue Whale before meeting Barnabas. Now Sam treated Willie like an old friend.

Nasty Barnabas the way he puts Willie in such a bind. He doesn't want anyone in the house, which is understandable but he has to understand that if someone like Sam dropped by it would look very suspicious for Willie to just tell him he can't come in. If they would just keep the doors and windows locked, and keep Maggie locked in Josette's room it would help.

How in the world did she get away so fast after Sam saw her at the window? He rushed right out, she couldn't have gotten far! So frustrating for poor Sam, my heart really goes out to him. And I was pleased with Burke for being so nice to him, getting him a sandwich and all. Considering that it's not been long since these two were at odds it's good to see them become friends.

Perhaps it was the style in the 60's, but another thing that I noticed which seemed strange to me was that Elizabeth's blazer was placed over her shoulders instead of her wearing it with her arms in the sleeves.  That would drive me crazy!  [crazy] How does it stay without falling off?  I kept thinking that she should put her arms in the sleeves!  Weird!  [nut]

It seems women in the 60's did this a lot with jackets and sweaters. I think it looks silly as well, either put the sweater on or take it off. Later on though, I remember wearing a sweater or jacket with the arms tied around my waist when I wasn't wearing it. That way I didn't have to carry it with me.

Thanks everyone. It's so great to be remembered and thought of. Thanks especially to Jackie for posting that great collage of JK characters. If I could figure out how to do that I'd post the one I made of Willie and Quentin.

He no longer holds the power over people that he could use to his advantage.
Except for Julia and Willie.

Despite the fact that he has threatened to end their lives on several occasions, they stay loyal to the ol' sourpuss...

Now that's power!

That's right, both of them chose to remain with him long after the blood bond was broken on Willie. Julia stayed out of love and Willie out of loyalty. And they both chose to do whatever he wanted, for both of them their sun rose and set on him. When he was a vampire their moon rose and set on him.

:o Oh no! Barnabas Collins didn't go to England after all! He's locked in some secret room behind the three coffins! It says so right here in the TRUE family history book, the one Joshua Collins hoped no one would ever see!

Ah, yes, now I can hear what Laura Murdoch Stockbridge is trying to tell me, she's saying that she wants me to light her fire!

What a fantastic topic. When I saw this I had to smile. Amanda Harris tops my list for the most annoying character.

I'm curious as to why my post above was edited. If I made some kind of error I would like to be aware of it so that I don't make the same error again.

As a born again Christian I don't find anything very offensive on the show for the simple reason that I choose to look at it as entertainment only. There are a couple things that I find a little bit hard to take, one is when
Nicholas raised Carolyn from the dead after the experiment killed her. I didn't really like his being granted powers that belong to God only, but again it's just entertainment.
The other thing is the various Reverend Trasks. The 1840 Lamar Trask was not a reverend but he was every bit as sanctimonious as the two reverends. They are some of the most fiendish characters on the show, total hypocrites to all they claim to believe. It hurts that some people have looked upon them and thought they were representative of Christianity and so shy away from faith. They most certainly are NOT!
