I do remember seeing Joel as Ken Stevens. Ken was a stalwart but bland character used to prop up two marriages. Ken and second wife Laurie were raising the son of irresponsible mother Kitty Styles. I don't remember if Kitty was played by Diana Millay at this point or if Diane Ladd had taken over the part. Ken was so bland that he was killed off camera so that Laurie could be used in other stories.

Julian Cannell was part of an extremely disfunctional family on Somerset that also included Christopher Pennock and Frank Schofield. The matriarch of the family was Lois Kibbee who coauthored The Bennett Playbill.

I mostly found Joe to controlling towards Carolyn and Maggie. I suppose partly due to the times. It's a little hard to believe that after all his exposure to the supernatural over the last years that he would flip over it.
