Continuing Scene 124:
Still clutching Angelique, Sarah cries bitterly as
Angelique bends to her.
And that's when today's quote -Page 62/Scene 124 - Angelique: 'My darling, don't cry. Sarah, dear, don't cry, please. It will be just as if I'm away for a little while.'
- comes up, followed in the script by:
SARAH
But they said...they were going to...
She looks at Charles.
Charles...don't let them --
She cannot finish, her sobs break out again.
And as far as differences in the dialogue go, what Angelique actually says is "Darling, don't cry. Sarah, dear, please don't cry. It'll be just as if I've gone away for a little while" - but all of Sarah's dialogue and everything that surrounds it is dropped from the scene once again, and once again, who knows if it was shot or not, though as we'll see below in this post too, given the editing, it may have been shot but simply cut.
And as far as differences in the directions and the descriptions go, we don't actually see Sarah crying bitterly because she seems to be sobbing - and even though neither the script nor any notes from DC indicate it, as can be seen in the following capture -
- a close-up of a disgusted looking Strack is actually seen while Angelique reassures Sarah that it will be just as if Angelique has gone away for a little while, and like Charles' earlier close-up, who knows if Strack's closeup was inserted because DC didn't like what he got from Monica Rich or simply because DC wanted to insert a Strack close-up?
Roxanne enters Collinwood. Barnabas calls her name. Excuse me, Mr. Collins, she says formally. Mr. Collins? he repeats--Roxanne, what is it? Hurt, she asks, is it true?--"Are you married?" Yes, he admits, shame-faced, it is--I am. Her mouth drops open, then closes. I must go to my sister, says Roxanne. Forgive me, begs Barnabas, there's no possible way for me to explain this. She agrees--there's not, is there?

On the other hand, the subtitles include Carlotta's narration, as well as all of Sarah's lines, but strangely enough jumps from -
- right to -
- skipping Mrs. Castle's line - and interestingly enough, Angelique actually says, "Darling, don't cry," without the "Please." - could the subtitles have picked the "Please" up from the end of Mrs. Castle's line? - Who knows?

I thought you said you were in the middle of a meeting, says Carolyn, carelessly tossing her coat on a chair. I am, says Burke. Where is she? asks Carolyn--in the bedroom? You are a girl with a suspicious, salacious mind, teases Burke. (I like his vocabulary.) If you must know, I really couldn't care less, she says, obviously lying. Good, then we can relax together, he says--why don't you sit down? of course Vicki Winters might be a little upset by it! says Carolyn nastily. Oh, I see, he says, you're worried about Vicki's interests--I'm glad to see she has such a good friend in you. My cousin's governess is no friend of mine, says Carolyn, but she's obviously very close to you! I see, says Burke, smelling the jealousy, you found out I drove her home this afternoon, is that it? Maybe, says Carolyn viciously, anyway, she'll be very happy t know about your little meeting! I'm glad you reminded me, says Burke, going to the closed kitchen door--honey, you can bring the drinks in now! He opens the door, remarking that his friend is a little shy. David comes out, drinks in his hands, and he hands one to Burke. Seeing his cousin, he asks, "What's SHE doing here?" Carolyn, surprised, asks David what HE'S doing here. Visiting my friend, says David. Does my mother know you came up here? demands Carolyn--you know how she feels about Mr. Devlin, you know she wouldn't want you to visit him. Then what are YOU doing here? asks David. Very good, Burke praises the boy--your turn, he tells Carolyn. Angry, she stomps a few feet away.

- a rare still of Charles that I'm not aware of being shared ...
Another one of the rare stills I rediscovered on CD several months back. This one had been posted back in the late '90s to the AOL DS' Image Gallery:

I have to confess that nowadays I have no idea what The Dark Shadows Foundation was, if I ever knew. I tried Googling and came up with zilch, so chances are either it doesn't exist anymore and/or it doesn't have an online presence...

- and then Sarah continues with "I won't let you take her." - but the closed captioning skips that and jumps right to Mrs. Castle saying -

Continuing Scene 124:
Mrs. Castle tries to disengage the child.
And that's when today's first quote -Page 62/Scene 124 - Mrs. Castle: 'Please, Sarah.'
- comes up, followed by today's second quote -Page 62/Scene 124 - Sarah: 'Don't let them do it, mama! I love her so.'
- coming up.
And as far as differences in the dialogue go, Mrs. Castle actually says "Sarah, please" - and Sarah's quote is dropped from the scene, and again, who knows if it was shot or not, though as we'll see below, given the editing, it may have been shot but simply cut.
And as far as differences in the directions and the descriptions go, even though neither the script nor any notes from DC indicate it, Mrs. Castle's line is delivered off screen while, as can be seen in today's first capture -
- there's a close-up of a very forlorn Charles on screen, so who knows if the switch to Charles was because DC didn't like Monica Rich's work in those moments or DC simply wanted to insert a Charles close-up rather than just have him in the background, as he'll be seen in tomorrow's capture (and here's -
- a sneak peak). But Sarah's quote from today is not the first bit of Sarah's stuff to not appear in the film as part of Scene 124, and as we'll see when I post about tomorrow's quote, it won't be the last. Though one thing we do know for sure is that DC did express his dissatisfaction with Monica Rich's work, so take from that what you will...
