Title: It was the best of times,
Post by: kuanyin on May 08, 2002, 05:41:26 AM
it was the worst of times. On one hand you have the beginning of the Barney and Julia mighty duo, fighting crimes against Collinses. BUT, then you have Dr. Lang saying "I'm a man of science, I can't believe in witchcraft! Would you like Jeff Clark's face with those fries, Mr. Vampire patient o'mine?!"

Or the Roger and Lang comedy stylings. "I thought I might have a stroke." Oh? Has your heart bothered you before, Mr. Collins?" Bada bing, bada boom.

Vickie "AIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" OK, THAT one was understandable. (Sorry, Cheryl, I couldn't resist. I will admit he seems a wee bit improved as Harry).

Oh, and why oh why was Elizabeth attacked by an insane leprechan? Or did she go through a time warp herself and thinks she is sweet sixteen again?

I honestly couldn't understand why Vicky screamed. She's been back from the past over a week now. We went through this whole bit of "recognizing" everyone when she went to the past. Don't tell me we have to go through it all again now that she's back. Geesh, you'd think she'd know the difference by now! ::)

This one made sense to me.  It isn't just a matter of someone looking like someone else.  For example, she gave a slight start when she first saw Joe again and then said, "Joe Haskell."

But, in the case of Noah, this is someone she remembers shooting and killing.  To suddenly open a door and apparently see him would be a shock.  I can understand that one.  But, hopefully she got over it as soon as she learned who he was and had a chance to get her bearings again. :)

But you know, this ain't the first time.  Everyone in the cast "looks like someone she knew in the past" (say the date for godsakes).  She freaks out every bloody time and I have to start wondering if it's not a desire for the attention.

Although, I must say, it was really pretty funny (poor Mrs. J)  ;D

Yes, and the oh-so-serious, Science Man, Dr. Lang just likes to create human monsters by sewing together body parts dug up from the cemetery.  Nothing special, happens all the time!   [lghy]

Hasn't Vicki met Tony Peterson?  I know she didn't look at Trask and say, "You look like Tony Peterson, a lawyer I knew in the past," but she did meet Carolyn's friend, didn't she?

Did anyone else crack up when Mrs. J said, "What did you do 2 her??? That girl wouldn't just scream for no reason!"

I started laughing sooo hard, I like fell off my bed and the water I was drinking came out my nose  ;D ;D idk how on earth she delivered that line w/o cracking up....but she was so dead serious.....I think Harry and Jeff were prinson inmates LMAO! Twisted, twisted........

I have to admit this isn't my favorite part of the series (post 1795 - pre 1897). I don't mind Dr. Lang so much but I think the whole Frankenstein rip-off is really silly. I enjoyed seeing Vicki  return from the past and find "Jeff Clark" but that gets old - especially after Alexandra Moltke leaves the show. Never cared for the whole Adam/Eve thing. I'm looking forward to 1897.

I have to agree! I was really referring to Craig Slocum. And didn't you just LOVE how in front of a perfect (?) stranger, Vicky turns to Elizabeth and starts talking about when she was back in the past? The girl is more than one taco short of a combo plate. He could have been from Wyndcliffe to evaluate her, for all she knew!

ROFL!  I don't think that possibility has occured to sweet Vicki, although I wonder if it's occured to any of the other characters  ;).

It was the best of times for me seeing Craig Slocum again as Harry Johnson! That was a great birthday present for me too. He looked so nice all dressed up in a suit. He really made my day. I find him fascinating and incredibly sexy!

Vicky did not meet Tony Peterson in person as of yet. She has heard about him, but so far they never met face to face. :)

You're right about that, Jennifer, about Vicki not being too deep. She just doesn't know a good thing when she trips over it. If Craig Slocum showed up at my door I would be screaming for joy!

If you want a nice view of what the cast thought of the Summer of 1968 storyline, listen to the cast interview on the Dark Shadows Soundtrack CD (believe it's on Rhino--the first half is the contents of the original 1969 soundtrack LP).  This was done in August '68, I believe, and it's a hoot.  I just love Grayson's description of Julia's professional abilities!  And my beloved Don Briscoe makes a cameo appearance, too!  (you can hear Grayson giggling when he mentions playing "the new vampire in town"!)

I absolutely loved Mrs. Johnson berating her son when Vicki screamed.  "What did you do to her?"  Now does that bring back memories or what?  When I was in grade school back then, and the nuns slapped us, we did not dare go home and tell our parents, especially our mothers.  They would have the same reaction as Mrs. J:  "Well, what did you do that Sister had to slap you?"  Our mothers would then give us the business about embarrassing them, making them appear as bad mothers, and then THEY would slap us.  Today, if a teacher dared to slap a kid, even if the kid was burning down the school, the parents would do some slapping:  they'd slap the teacher, the school, the school district and the entire Department of Education with a lawsuit.

Sad, but true Gerad.

Frankly, I wouldn't consider a guy like Harry to be any prize. Sorry, but it's just the way I feel. The guy was an ex-con and a not-at-all redeemed one at that.

It's true that Vicki is back from the past for a bit now...but still I can understand why she freaked out at seeing a man who resembled
the man she killed back in 1795.
