Who's been mowing??
« on: August 12, 2004, 12:40:32 AM »
I've been watching this kid in the house below us.  Today is Wednesday, and for him, it also means, "mow the lawn" day.
Which made me think. (don't even go there).  Who does Barnabas' (sigh) get to mow his lawn?  Don't say Willie because he does so much as it is.  Cleaning, cooking, polishing the candeliar(sp), and fixing the other rooms.

What about Collinwood?  David won't do it, and you know darn well Roger won't.  Do they have just a person to do this and that's all?
Cassandra:  I have a potion.  You know it well.  As soon as she drinks it, within an hour, she will go to sleep and have the dream.
Nicholas:  I am much to talented to spend my time drugging drinks.

When I moved to Maine 15 years ago, we bought a house from a blind, elderly lady.  The company she hired to mow the lawn was called "Phoenix Lawn Care".  We hired them our first winter here to do the snow removal in our driveway.  Can you just see Mrs. Johnson on a riding mower?  LOOK OUT! :o

I think at one point, Matthew Morgan did that type of work around the estate for Liz. Once he was out of the picture, I'll bet they contracted the work out. Perhaps someone from one of the family owned farms came over and took care of the lawns on the estate. As I recall, there was a stables and pool house on the property that would have also needed tending to.

Why do I visualize poor Willie out there with a scythe?

It's easier to get grass stains off toes than sneakers.....definitely, flip-flops.

Seriously, an estate like Collingwood would have an entire staff of groundskeepers keeping up with the lawns, gardens, hedges, walkways and private roads. Roger and David sure as hell weren't out there on the weekends.... ::)

maybe dr. hoffman had a "will work for food/lodging" type deal with the family.i can see julia trading those tweeds for coveralls once in awhile.since that "book" never did end up getting published perhaps julia needed to earn her keep. ::)

You don't think Barnabas lives at the Old House for free, do ya?
He IS expected to earn his keep.

Funny picture Connie!  However, I get the feeling the Old House had no lawn.  The grand estate did yes, but the Old House seemed to near the forest to make a lawn practical.
