Hey everybody,
Guess who has just shown up at Toy Fair 2010... That's right! Barnabas Collins!
http://toyfair10.asmzine.com/gallery/bif-bang-pow/slides/IMG_4281.html (http://toyfair10.asmzine.com/gallery/bif-bang-pow/slides/IMG_4281.html)
He looks a lot like the 12" version, but this guy is supposed to be 8". Hopefully this means more characters down the road. No word yet on pricing or availability, at least that I can find.
-
It's slightly odd seeing an 8 inch action figure with all cloth attire like that. (makes him look alittle short, imo)
That said, I'd LOVE too see more characters released. Only I've got the feeling the next line of DS-related figures will be of the Burton-Movie-versions.
-
These "real clothes" figures are all the rage again. They used to be popular in the '70s with companies like Mego producing the Universal Monsters and whatnot. Recently, one company brought Star Trek back in this format and now a lot of companies are following in their footsteps. I hope we get some more original series figures before the Burton movie comes along. I mean everybody needs at least one Joan Bennett action figure in their collection! [snow_happy]
-
yes i'd love to see someone do that insane chartreuse caftan thing in eight inch scale.
-
Cool!
-
Love those flash-flood pants... [snow_undecided]
-
Imagine if they make more of our favorite DS characters, and then searching through the musty boxes in the basement and finding the old original GI Joes and Barbies and playing "Saturday Night at the Blue Whale." One could even build a set with the Legos found in another musty box. And if one found the 45 of "Quentin's Theme" and used the flip-side "#1 at the Blue Whale" played on the portable phonograph found stacked on a shelf...

Mego's World's Greatest Super Heroes line were my favorite toys as a kid. Mego made great action figures and very cool playsets to go with them. I've often thought it would have been too cool if Mego had issued a line of DS action figures and playsets. They were a major toy company in the 1970s -- legend has it that Mego was offered, but turned down, the licensing to produce Star Wars action figures -- and a line of DS figures would have been a great tie-in with the show's debut in syndication.
Maybe I'll finally get my wish...or at the very least, a Julia doll...
-
No word yet on pricing or availability, at least that I can find.
I so want this! I didn't get the other Barnanbas action figure that was released a few years ago because it was too big. I think the smaller action figures are more cool.
I found out a little more information from the Mego Talk forums. It will be released by EMCE Toys, and will be available for pre-order by Late summer - probably close to Labor Day according to their spokesperson. No word on pricing, but I checked out similar figures in their line, and they are in the $15-20 range.
-
Gee, that seems rather cheap. I would have expected the price to be about twice that. Not that I'm complaining that it might not be. [wink2]
-
I've got the 12" BC doll and would definitely be interested in the 8" version. All this talk about the Blue Whale music has gotten me nostalgic to review the great scenes between Maggie and Joe at the Blue Whale during the time of their breakup. I wish a DVD with just the various scenes at the Blue Whale and the music played on the juke box would get produced. I think it would be a hit with our slightyly older DS fandom demographics.

ANGELIQUE COMING SOON!
And Chris Jennings is an exclusive to SDCC!
http://www.spectretoy.com/product.html
-
And more info on the NEW LINE:
http://w.hkwebcenters.com.hk/spectretoys/news.html
-
Does anybody know if they'll be selling these at the Fest?
-
I want a werewolf Chris doll!
Thanks for the links, C_B.
-
"Series One", oh, hot-dang!
Anyone else see the poll on http://www.spectretoy.com/ (http://www.spectretoy.com/) for 'What DARK SHADOWS character would you like to see released?'
Options are:
Quentin Collins (an obvious choice, actually I'm surpised he's not in the Series 1)
Josette DuPres (perfect for staging fights-to-the-death with the Angelique doll!)
Dr. Julia Hoffman (likewise)
Willie Loomis ( [beg2] )
Other:
& FYI, you can save $2 by ordering Barnabas & Angelique together: http://w.hkwebcenters.com.hk/spectretoys/ecommerce/dark-shadows/witch-angelique-bouchard.html (http://w.hkwebcenters.com.hk/spectretoys/ecommerce/dark-shadows/witch-angelique-bouchard.html)
-
I played it sensible and voted for Julia, though I was strongly tempted to go the "Other" route and vote for Professor Stokes, in the hope of seeing a miniature monocle.
-
I'm surprised that Quentin was not in series 1 as well, but they probably wanted to limit it to two and figured that Angelique would be a better choice. Obviously they had to do Barnabas. Quentin was already released in a larger figure by they other company. Given the choice, they might have thought Angelique would be more marketable since they are giving her her action figure (doll?) debut.
-
since angelique is such a shape shifter i was wondering what incarnation they'd pick(1795 ang, cassandra, vampire ang,1970 miniskirted leviathan ang)...
it looks like they went with 1897 angelique. funny that she's pictured in the 1970 parallel-time room.
i still think i'll hold out. i'm not interested in a barnabas or quentin figure either. i'd definitely go for any of the "present time" female characters. liz, julia, maggie and of course vicki. i'd love to see an ohrbach's sleeveless done in 8" scale.
-
That's 1795 Angelique.

-
I doubt this will happen, but it would be nice if they went the classic GI Joe/Barbie route and sold clothes separately. When I was a kid I had a generic GI Joe with blonde, painted hair. When they came out with the astronaut, "Santa" had the choice of making me another GI Joe with the space gear or just fashioning the suit. If you had the figure, you could buy any number of uniforms and gear. Do they still do this for Barbie? Or do you have to buy the doll every time you want a new motif? I later got the GI Joe with a beard, fuzzy hair and KUNG FU GRIP! He also talked. That guy was a real James Bond type. He could go into the jungle, dive, walk on the moon, and whatever else I wanted. I wish I had not let me mom talk me into giving all those figures away.
-
I say it's long overdue that Julia got her own action figure- MPI obviously underestimated the popularity of the character as it never made her a plate, bobbyhead, etc. I agree that these new figures should have costume changes. Better yet, how about a scaled-down Collinwood Drawing Room playset for the figures?
-
I want a werewolf Chris doll!
And I want a non-werewolf Chris doll!!!
-
LOL, KMR, and I KNOW you're not alone in that!
-
I would simply keel over if we get a Julia doll. I don't really like the Angie one. Barnabas bleh! Quentin and the werewolf I have to have! I hope we get Quentin and Julia!
-
I just wish these had come out when the Planet of the Apes and Star Trek MEGO figures had been released. I used to love playing with those. I was 13 when DS was syndicated the first time, so I'd have been a tad old to strictly PLAY with them, but I'd have probably built a Collinwood set or something. My friends and I tried to do an 8mm movie with the Marvel figures, but had problems with the camera. We did some scenes and the picture was totally out of focus. Of course I'd never have gotten the Angelique figure then. GUYS DON'T PLAY WITH GIRL DOLLS!!!(LOL). I had the Fantastic Three. Reed, Ben and Johnny but Sue was apparently invisible.
-
Why are these products coming out a month after the Fest? Never mind MPI did the same thing with some of their newly released items. I wonder how many of the Angelique figures would have been sold at the Fest?
http://www.horrortoys.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=243
-
It may be that they never even thought about the DS Fest because they're probably in the habit of introducing new products at Comicon.
-
But Spectre Toys is listing a July release date.
-
I wonder if it's that they'll be available at Comicon and directly from Spectre Toys in July but not until August elsewhere? [idontknow] Or perhaps the Horror Toys Web site somehow got the wrong date.
-
Wow, very cool!
However...
Werewolf Chris Jennings is an SDCC exclusive ONLY?! Dude! They are killing teh lien!! [ghost_wink] Sorry, had to say it. Hopefully Spectre will hang onto some to sell online afterward though.
~Penny~
-
I say it's long overdue that Julia got her own action figure
I am definitely hoping for a Julia doll. Of course, what I'm really hoping for are two Julia dolls -- one based on the character's pre-1795 look and one based on her post-1795 look. Perfect for reenacting the episode in which Julia goes from drab to fab.
-
Well, you know Dan Curtis forced Grayson to wear that wig!
-
Perhaps, if they do a Julia figure, it will have interchangeable heads. But if not, and if it only comes with the short '68/'69 style hair, fear not. There must be football uniforms out there for the Ken doll, so just buy one, remove the faceguard and the chin strap from the helmet, and paint it to look the color of Julia's '67 wig - and voila - it should be a perfect likeness. [ghost_cheesy]
-
Ouch, MB! [ghost_grin]
-
That was harsh MB, lol. [ghost_wub]
nancy
-
Please - how often has Julia's '67 hair style been described as a football helmet? One needn't look any farther than this forum. And even by the Graysonphiles themselves. [ghost_wink] I simply provided an easy way to achieve the classically described '67 Julia look should it not be provided by Spectre Toys. [ghost_smiley]
-
As PennyDreadful stated the Chris Jennings is a SDCC exclusive. As we know the limited edition is 500 and this item will only be available at the EntertainmentEarth booth. I have been informed that any remaining Jennings figures will be returned to Spectre.
This is from an entertainmentearth email sent to me today:
"Thank you for your response. I have received expanded information from our purchasing dept. The item is a Spectre exclusive. They are giving it to us to offer for them at the SDCC, however it is not an official piece of EE inventory. When the SDCC is over, Spectre will be taking the item back with them, if there are any leftovers. They did not offer the item to us to sell on our website, if any units are leftover. It is only being offered in conjunction with EE at the SDCC itself. Any arrangements that Spectre is making to release any leftovers after the SDCC have not been shared with us. So, sorry for the confusion about the item being at the EE SDCC booth, it will be there, but (as of this moment) Spectre intends on taking this item home with them if necessary."
Hopefully some will be made available to us at the Fest but I doubt it especially if the Ebay sellers get greedy there.
EE does have the Barnabas and Angeligue for sale at its website.

Series Two is coming in November!
My bets are Quentin and Josette, at the very least. I am hoping that there will be more than just two in the next wave.

Upcoming DS figures revealed in the DS Journal's interview with Rick Phares! All great choices for toys IMO!
http://darkshadowsnews.blogspot.com/
-
Can't wait til I see the pictures for those upcoming figures!
-
YES! A Dr. Julia Hoffman doll!
-
Start scouting for those football uniforms now. [ghost_wink]
-
Actually, anyone who's in the mood to prepare doesn't even have to search for a whole football outfit because just look at what I've come across: Ken doll hat vintage repro Touch Down football helmet (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390004840975&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WXF%3F&GUID=b1e350f31280a02684e50c75ffbec13b&itemid=390004840975&ff4=263602_263622)!! It's only $8.99 AND you don't even have to remove a faceguard or a chin strap. It's completely suitable for painting as is. You couldn't possibly ask for more! [ghost_nowink]
All you need to do now is search for the best paint to match '67 Julia's hair color, and as soon as the Julia figure is released, you'll be good to go. [ghost_wink]
-
I can't wait to see these new figures! In fact, I want them NOW!
-
Or, you could bid on this: Vintage Barbie Titian Red haired Fashion Queen Flip Wig (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Barbie-Titian-Red-haired-Fashion-Queen-Flip-Wig-/320536488771?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa176ab43)

place your orders if you choose
-
It's great that they're making this available to the general public after all. [ghost_smiley]
-
This is certainly good news. I was just confused because they originally said it was going to be a limited edition but it seems the company will be producing more than just 500 units.
-
Though they do have the disclaimer: "Can't make it to Comic-Con? Order now for shipment after the convention (while supplies last)." I took that to mean that even if you order one online, it doesn't necessarily guarantee that you'll receive one. But it would be great (at least for DS fans in general) if Spectre is making more than they'd originally intended (though collectors who'd prefer a greatly limited amount to increase the value of their own figure might not be happy if Spectre does [ghost_wink]).
-
It seems from this interview in the last paragraph the company will make over 500 if need be but who knows for sure. I will order it soon and hopefully it will still be available.
http://darkshadowsnews.blogspot.com/
-
The comment that they don't want their figures to be impossible to get is reassuring. [ghost_smiley]
-
It certainly is. I guess one could ask this question? When is a limited edition not an limited edition? Collectors need to know the size of a limited edition for the reasons you mentioned above. And how then will the company differentiate the 500 limited SDCC figures from the extra production? It's a little bit confusing especially if they are not individually numbered. Either way I plan on getting one, or two.
-
But will they be at the Festival in Burbank?
-
Cool! Just pre-ordered one.
-
First look at werewolf Chris via ebay seller:
http://cgi.ebay.com/SDCC-2010-Werewolf-DARK-SHADOWS-8-figure-exclusive-/270585184446?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f002240be (http://cgi.ebay.com/SDCC-2010-Werewolf-DARK-SHADOWS-8-figure-exclusive-/270585184446?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f002240be)
-
It's the same image that's on EntertainmentEarth's order page.
-
$88.90? [ghost_huh] $88.90??!! [ghost_shocked] Who the hell do they think is going to pay THAT when they can order it for themselves elsewhere for only $19.99? [ghost_rolleyes]
-
From the EE site:
"Now you can celebrate the classic supernatural series with this incredibly detailed 8-inch tall Werewolf action figure, based on the character portrayed by actor Chris Jennings."
Chris Jennings was my favorite actor on the show! [ghost_cheesy]
-
It's the same image that's on EntertainmentEarth's order page.
Mybad, I've only visited the Spectre site for info/pictures so I was unaware.
-
I agree MB. I am all for an open competitive marketplace but this seller is attempting to take full advantage of DS fans imo. I doubt this seller would accept an offer of $20.00 or so.
-
Chris Jennings was my favorite actor on the show! [ghost_cheesy]
Yeah, he's the one who played Don Briscoe in most of the episodes, wasn't he?
-
No, that was actor Tim Shaw. [ghost_wink]
But hey, Spectre is making these great figures available, so I suppose we can look the other way once or twice when they make a mistake - as, invariably, every piece of merchandise related to DS seems to do in some way or another. And, unlike other DS merchandise (yes, I'm speaking about you, PomPress books), it's not like people who should definitely know better are putting together the copy. If Spectre begins to make repeated errors, well, then it will certainly be time to question who's handling their research and just how competent they actually are...
-
when they make a mistake - as, invariably, every piece of merchandise related to DS seems to do in some way or another
Like the back of the NODS VHS box that reads, "In the 19th century a woman named Lara Parker was hanged as a witch..." or the HODS write-up in one of the VideoHound guides that referred to Barnabas as a 375-year-old vampire (imagine Barnabas dressed like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1550%E2%80%931600_in_fashion#Style_gallery_1580s.E2.80.931590s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1550%E2%80%931600_in_fashion#Style_gallery_1580s.E2.80.931590s)) and mentioned Victoria Winters either as one of the characters in the film or as one of the actresses in the film (I forget which).
-
I am pretty stoked for the Julia Hoffman figure! She can hang out with my Charmed action figures and maybe they can give her some fashion advice! HA! BTW....thanks for the link. I love Wikipedia however I had to pry myself away for a while as it can be so addicting. I am gonna have to take a day and read up on the fashion of that period and others!
-
http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SPT5771
OMG the werewolf doll, er, action figure (LOL!) is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want one like yesterday!!!! Woo hoo!!!! LOL! [ghost_grin] [hello] [Wolfie]
-
I've preordered all three figures and am so excited, they look great!
Am already speculating on the second wave of figures. Quentin is a given, and probably either Julia or Josette.
I'd LOVE a Magda doll!
-
quentincollins:
The next wave of figures have been announced, and prototypes will be revealed at SDCC (San Deigo Comic Con). They are:
Quentin Collins
Josette DuPres
Dr. Julia Hoffman
Willie Loomis
Adam
I think Magda would be great for a future wave of figures. There are so many characters they could do - Elizabeth, Roger, Carolyn, David, Victoria, Maggie, Prof. Stokes. I'd also like to see Nicholas Blair, Laura Collins, Sarah Collins and Cyrus Longworth with alternate John Yaeger head and Count Petofi. There are dozens of DS characters they could make.
~Penny Dreadful~
-
I would kill to have a Petofi figure! And if there's going to be an Aristede figure, then Petofi would have to come equipped with an automatically slapping arm so that he can slap the Aristede figure around. [ghost_cheesy]
-
Yes, that must be his "action feature!" LOL! And he should have a detachable hand of course.
-
The next wave of figures have been announced, and prototypes will be revealed at SDCC (San Deigo Comic Con). They are:
Quentin Collins
Josette DuPres

Wow the second wave will be a lot bigger! I'm going to need to make some room! I wonder if they'll do varients, such as 1840 Julia, modern Qunein, 1897 Quentin, 1975 Victoria, etc.
And will they make playsets? Collinwood and the Old House are a must, of course.
-
The Barnabas figure looks great, but I want to see a closer look at the Angelique doll's face before I pre-order. It's hard to tell if it looks like her or not. Also, it looks like she has that molded plastic hair. I would prefer rooted hair! LOL
