Fest Report / Depp/DS Film article
« on: August 30, 2007, 08:02:49 PM »
Catching up on my e-mail I came across a Google News Alert for this article:

La Dolce Musto
Who Put the Goth in Gotham?
Unconventional swordplay and vamping, plus blind items that will make you go blind
by Michael Musto

from the Village Voice. To say it puts an, uh, unique spin on the whole "thrust/parry" scene between Barnabas and Burke in Ep #301 would be an understatement!  [lghy]  And be sure to also read the second item because it references Frid as well.

(FYI: If you're unaware of what articles in the Village Voice can often be like, be aware that you might take offense to some of the images/text contained on this Web page - so, check it out at your own risk.  ;))

I can tell you that MsCriseyde was BESIDE herself in a huge fit of giggles while that scene was being shown.  Karlenfan and I were laughing at her laughing.    ;D

Michael Musto is a very famous columnist for the Village Voice.
He often weighs in on celebrity scandals
on MSNBC.

He's quite a bitchy queen who made his career by outing others, mainly closet cases who spoke out against gay rights.

Doesn't surprise me in the least that he's a DS fan~~half of us seem to be gay men of a "certain age"!!

Musto is so well knowm, I'm amazed no one noticed he was there last week!

If he's who I think he is he also does those 'I Love the 70's/80's/90's' shows on VH-1.

He states at the very beginning of the piece that he did not attend which would explain why no one saw him there.  ;)

funny...

i've seen this particular barnabas/burke scene a hundred times and never thought to read a gay subtext into it...and i can read a gay subtext into just about anything.

to me burke is just a paragon of heterosexuality.

He's a paragon of heterosexuality gone hideously wrong, I think.... sort of like how perfectly nice poppies get processed and refined into destructive heroin, with whatever good qualities there are exaggerated to the point where they become nasty.

Just looked up "paragon"... he's no paragon of anything.  Parody, maybe.

Though I found this among the definitions:  "5. to be a match for; rival."
