All quite interesting. I wonder if the person who vandalized the cars and set the fire has something against Salve Regina, the Careys, or both? Plus, I hadn't heard that the Carey's no longer own Seaview...

Thanks for posting the link, Midnite.  [easter_smiley]

Was Laura Collins possibly seen anywhere in the vicinity and at the exact same time of this terrible fire in Newport, RI?

PS Foster Krupa: Any possible relation to the late, great drummer, Gene Krupa?

Besides being an ahole criminal, he had to be a complete idiot. Seaview is practically a stone house with a slate roof. He'd have a better chance of burning down Mt. Rushmore.  Still , it could have done enough damage to the wood flooring and stairs on the interior to make repairs impracticle. We have to be thankful that no one was injured, the fire alarm and sprinkler system worked like they were supposed to and the moron was arrested.  Im for turning him over to Garth Blackwood. Lol.

According to a separate article in The Newport Buzz, Krupa is currently charged with sixteen different felonies and misdemeanors.

Maybe the recalcitrant Mr. Krupa will engage the services of either Tony Petersen, Esq. or the firm of Garner & Garner to represent him in court?

Of course, if young Mr. Krupa cannot afford those A-list attorneys to represent him, he might prevail upon Mr. Barnabas Collins of Collinsport, Maine to represent him on a pro bono basis?

After all, we all saw what a “great” job Barnabas did in defending Quentin Collins I during that witchcraft trial back in 1840.  [easter_rolleyes] [easter_wink]

That’s very sad it’s too bad people are so thoughtless .

He apparently dated a girl who lived in the mansion while she worked in Newport so he knew the layout of the house. However, that does not explain his motivation for trashing the place.

[pointing-up]  Nor why he vandalized the cars in the Salve Regina parking lot across the street.  [snow_huh]  There's definitely more to the story than what's been reported so far...

I find it very disturbing that he had such easy access to the house. Don't they lock the doors at night?

It's been reported on the local news that he broke windows to gain access...

There were actually several news reports throughout the day on the 28th, none of which I saw at the time because I was busy doing things other than watching TV. But I have seen almost all of them since because they're available online at various local news stations' Web sites. Interestingly, from our POV, DS is mentioned in almost every one of them. Though arson at the house it hardly the sort of incident one would want to happen for DS to get publicity.

I also read that after he wrecked and police tried to arrest him, he went after them with the blow torch and they had to use stun gun to subdue him. He is in jail no bond and his first hearing is March 5.

Do you think if this terrible act of arson actually did occur at Collinwood, would the Collinsport Police Department have bungled this criminal investigation as they did with just about every other criminal investigation they ever undertook?  [snow_huh]  [easter_rolleyes] [easter_grin] [easter_evil]

All I’ll say is that I’m glad that it was the Newport, RI fire department that responded to this fire and NOT the Collinsport, ME fire department that responded to this conflagration.  [snow_rolleyes] [easter_rolleyes] [easter_wink] [easter_evil]

(Think the Todd Antique Shop and Collinwood in PT 1970.)  [easter_rolleyes] [snow_grin]

I've never really thought about it before, but yeah, the Collinsport Fire Department is just as inept as the Collinsport Police Department. Someone should go the the Town Council to demand some changes!!  [snow_wink] [easter_wink]

(And while we're listing the complete loss of property, let's not forget Worthington Hall in 1897...)

I guess that the McGruder Mansion, a/k/a ”Rose Cottage,” was too far out in the sticks for the Collinsport Fire Department to save that old dump in time?  [snow_huh] [easter_evil] [easter_wink]

All this talk of fires has me wondering if we ever saw the fishing shack again in the present after it was set on fire during the Laura storyline? We definitely saw it during 1795/96 and I think again in 1840/41. But nothing comes to mind in the present...

There hasn't been much activity on this case because they have been conducting competency hearing on whether Foster Krupa was determined to be fit for trial. Everything has been on hold til this month when it was determined he is fit for trial. He has been held w/o bail since his arrest. They are now conducting bail hearings whether or not he will be released on bail -which were held up - but he is also expected to be indicted by a grand jury in the next 6 months to decide if there is enough evidence  to officially indict him on the charges. He is facing 16 criminal charges including 2 capital offenses of carjacking and arson.  If he is indicted (lets hope) , he will be arraigned and according to his attorney, the process may last 1 to 2 years.
