Title: OS v '12 Movie Question

In OS, when 'the werewolf' is near Liz/Barn, Barn uses his silver headed cane , which scares the werewolf off.
But in '12 series, a 'vampire' can't touch real silver.

What does the lore say about vamps & silver? Also, did I get the first part right (Chris was scared off by Barn's cane)?

According to folklore, vampires can't stand silver and that's where the OS got it wrong and '12 got it right.  And, yes, Patti, Barnabas did beat off Chris-the-werewolf with his silver-headed cane when he tried to attack Carolyn in the OS.  That, as a kid, was one of my favorite and spooky episodes.

Trying to remember any of the vampire (Dracula) movies I've seen where anything is mentioned about silver.

Don't believe it's on the '32 'Dracula', or any of the Hammer films (though I may have overlooked something).
