One little gem I found in a discount bin in Walgreens is 4:44 - Last Day on Earth, from 2012.  It's a limited release film I never heard of until I found it rifling through the DVD's looking for something for a couple bucks.  The world is ending - it's made clear right at the beginning, and in the 24+ hours before a solar disaster wipes out all life at 4:44 a.m. EST a middle-aged couple residing in their NYC apartment deal with what's left of their life.  Outside, everyone else is, too, many continuing their daily routines, others partying, some checking out before Earth does.  Although it got mixed reviews, I found it emotionally gripping, connecting with the main characters and those revolving around them.  If you find it in a Walgreen's bargain bin for a couple bucks, pick it up.
