Good news when it comes to the premiere's viewership. According to the Fast Overnights, last night's ep brought in 6.3 million viewers, which is not only more than last season's premiere did when Elementary was still on Thursday and when it brought in 5.6 million, but it's also more than the show brought in for last season's finale, which was 5.5 million. And all that despite the fact that the show was opposite Sunday Night Football on NBC...

I just realized that last week I forgot to mention that Elementary came in second after football (no surprise there) and it beat third place Quantico by 2.3M viewers in the Fast Overnights.
This week it was also second, and it beat third place by 3.2M viewers in the Fast Overnights because, not only did third place's viewership fall, Elementary's viewership went up.

I recorded it and haven't checked but there wasn't any game on this Sunday so I would guess it started on time. I thought there was a football game every Sunday.? When I checked CBS was featuring golf and I don't believe there was a tournament going on.

This week Elementary came in #2 in its timeslot again, but it beat #3 by 2.6M viewers because it was completely opposite football again.

Yeah, it did. I'm surprised they were so precise about the time. Was it a banner type notice? I set it to record but I usually go to the live feed and rewind to the beginning to avoid commercials and save precious time, lol.

Up against stiffer ABC competition and significantly delayed by NFL overrun, CBS’ entire slate of shows slipped in the Fast Overnights last night. However, while Elementary slipped to #3 in its timeslot by shedding 1.2M viewers from last week, it remained steady in the demo. And chances are the viewers that all the CBS shows lost from live viewing will more than likely be reclaimed with DVR viewing...

It seems that you are always posting good ratings for the show, but a few days ago I came across an article from early November that says the ratings have been bad and they are canceling it after this season.

Whoever wrote that is definitely jumping the gun because no such decision has been made by CBS. However, while the show is almost consistently #2 in it's timeslot by a wide margin, it is true that the ratings have been down this season, but that's due to delays and being up against football. Once football season ends, the ratings could easily improve just as all CBS shows normally do. Plus, there also the fact that the show does extremely well in other countries, so it's not just making money for CBS in this country.
A bigger factor than ratings is that this is the show's 5th season, which means that contracts will need to be renegotiated for the show to move forward to a 6th season.
Time will tell...
